Interesting about Ferydoon Zandi. He was born in Germany but has an Iranian father IIRC he was being pursued by both National Teams but ended up playing for Iran. I remember him being a huge promise now look where he is at.. Cyprus

What happened to that Karimi guy?

What happened to that Karimi guy?
We are without most of our European players.
Ali karimi FC Bayern Munchen
Mehdi Mahdavikia Hamburg (just left the club, might go to Dortmund or Everton)
Vahid Hashemian (Hannover 96)
Andranik Teymourian (Bolton wanderers FC)
Rahman rezaei (Livorno)
We are also without 3 other starters including Hossein Kaebi (arguably our best non European player, he at one point had links with Arsenal).
All in all, we will be thrashed...
And about Zandi, he has been plagued with injuries and his play has probably suffered greatly for it. He is still a decent player though. Our best player showing up is by far Javad Nekounam. he was a great player for Osasuna this season (one of the best).

Here is the low down. According to HugoMexico will be playing with two forwards Borgetti and the Castillo.
My problems with this, Borgetti is not fit to be a starter at this point. Can he reach a ball where Nery will pass very fast? Can he still time the headers? These are my problems. I would have preferred Bravo or Bofo up front. One, they are younger and fast than the Borg. Second, they are deadly.

I think it will most likely only be for the first half. Borgetti can't go the whole game any more...

from that list nosrati and khatibi are not going to play due to injury. Honestly, most fans our happy that khatibi isnt coming but nosrati is a HUGE loss, our only decent defender we had coming.
fortunatly nekounam got his visa issues straightened out, so he will play (the only player who played vs mexico in the world cup to play in this game)
half of our players have 8 caps or less, and those probably coming against youth teams of countries who are ranked in the 100s in the fifa rankings, so this will be something that most of them have never experienced before.
Our midfield coming to this game, although it is our "B" midfield, without the likes of bayerns karimi, hamburgs mahdavikia, and boltons teymourian, is very strong, dare i say better than what mexico has to offer. But our lack of resources in the striker position and in defense and the addition of nery castillo will certainly cancel that advantage out.
players to watch for iran (basically there entire midfield)
this is just repeating what i said in the other thread, with the inclusion of nekounam...
kazemian-fantastic player, my favorite behind karimi...every friendly this guy plays vs a club, from english to german to italian, he generates interest if not offers. During a friendly vs bayern munich the bayern commentator joked he should replace makaay and magath said he was great, and after a trip to italy lazio formally sent him an offer (his coach at the time rejected it). He will be playing on the right wing, so watch out for him. his only weakness (its a big one tho) is his lack of finishing ability.
shojaei-will be the most creative and best dribbler on the field on both sides
mobali-rivals nakamura as the best free kicker in asia
zandi-very solid player with german experience; couldve played for german national team, injuries recently been screwing him
nekounam- the one man that might give us a chance to maybe come out with our pride and dignity in place. very solid, one of the best dms in spain (plays for osasuna), best player in the team, vital on their semi final run to the uefa cup. Im sure the mexican staff was very dissapointed to learn that he was coming (he was not supposed to)
besides these guys our other players for the most part arent worthy of mexicos second division or a european 3rd division team.
the only way we will possibly score is with a set piece imo...shojaei and kazemian are FANTASTIC at drawing fouls in good areas, and mobali is an outstanding free kick taker (as is zandi and kazemian, but mobali is on another level)
another thing to watch for is our ability to score from the corner flag:D Zandi (from the left) and shojaei (from the right) are more than capable of doing this. I put a video up of zandi from earlier this year scoring from there. PROBABLY wont happen, but dont be shocked to see one of them attempt it if we need a spark.
btw to touch on something in the other thread, someone joked about the asian cup and implying that it is irrelevant; i would just like to let that person know that behind the world cup the asian cup is the most watched sporting event in the world:D That may not quite speak on the quality of it but it sure is important.

Thanx, although I don't fully understand Spanish.
I think despite the fact our team lacks our best 11, but this should be a hard fought game by our guys since most are either new comers to national team, or players who have been sitting on bench and waiting their turn. I am sure most will try to prove themselves to their coach and fight for more playing time in upcoming Asian Cup.
btw, the game will be at 3:00 am, Sunday morning Tehran time.
One more thing, Asian Cup is certainly at the same level as CONCACAF cup, if not more competitive. I think Mexico is in another level even compared to USA, let alone other CONCACAF teams, while Asia has Iran, Japan, S. Korea, Australia, and S. Arabia that can fight for the cup.

and in the other thread an iranian said that most iranians dont care about this game because no stars are playing, thats not true at all, most fans in the us, canada, or europe will wake up at 4 am on a workday to watch iran u23 play laos u19 lol

Im excited for this game. I think Ochoa should be the starter keeper. Hes really playing good, despite that goal from Cacho he took in the final. I wish Cacho was playing the friendlies and the Gold Cup, he'd be good with Nery. I guess hes playing the Copa America after the Recopa. It better be a good game after all the insanity in the Alfonso Lastras just for the training session.
My prediction is a 4-1 win for Mex with a couple of goals from Nery. What do you guys think.? Good to read Iranian people in the forum, that pretty cool...
PS. Funny how Nery, who has been a controversial new player, debuts in the same city other controversial player had his debut in the Mexican team, Guille Franco.

Well good luck to both team's,these are friendlies and they are great for practice, and if Iran or Mexico loses they lose the match, game, but they gain expeience for the next,so friendlies are good in a way.

Yes, but I would still would like for TRI to go off to other nations to dispute friendlies, and by that I don't mean the US. I believe they could get much more experience from these other nations playing them in they're home courts; Sadly, it wont happen. *sigh*

If you want to watch the game with raza, any of the clubs on riverside east of I-35 will make for an interesting evening.
If your tastes are more refined, you can go to ringers, champions, fado, fox and hound. All of which are downtown.
