Lucas is set to join the Champions League finalists in July, after completing the season with Gremio in his native Brazil, and wants to do so with a Copa Libertadores winners' medal in his pocket.

Are Gremio still in the Libertadores, have I still a chance to see him turn out in the colours of Gremio? I know its been said, but I like the first impression I hear.

Yea they were 2-0 down in the first game in the quarter finals but won and are in the semi finals against Santos (Ze Roberto's team). They won the first game 2-0 and will play the second leg of the semi on June 6th.

This was just now on top of BBC Sports gossip page:
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez wants to make £12m Valencia winger David Silva his first summer signing. (The Sun)

The Reds are ready to offer Djibril Cisse in part-exchange for Benfica winger Simao Sabrosa. (Daily Star)

Liverpool hope to make Lyon midfielder Florent Malouda their first signing. (The Guardian)

David Silva has magical feet. Truly a sight to see when the guy has the ball at his feet.

I rate him much higher than the £12m that The S*n has the price tag at. Well, not much higher. About £3m more. The only thing I hate about him is that he lives in the water. If ya' follow.

What really pisses me off is that Manure have now pretty much wrapped up Anderson, Nani and Hargreaves. They are the champs and we want to catch them but have only signed a squad striker in Voronin and a unproven in Europe Leiva.

If we are gonna challenge for the Premiership next season what are we waiting for!!!!

Sign some class you bastards!

liverpool should have landed their 6 european crown on 23rd may.......as we all know too well, they didnt..................reason-RAFA BENITEZ!!!!!!!....dont get me wrong here,im a huge fan of the spaniard but he lacks the balls to make decisions which count.....milan had a back 4 which averaged somethin on the lines of 34 if my math is right...logic says exploit their defence with pace....answer-CRAIG BELLAMY(he's not my personal favourite but would have done a job jus like the barca away game)....we should have dropped alonso and played stevie with masch in the center or played the argentine and the spaniard in the middle with stevie on the right......and gone with bellamy an kuyt upfront....trust me when i say we would have been winnin with ease......milan looked pedestrian.....kaka was anonymous(have to laud benitez)......but they DID NOT DESERVE BEING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS....

the problems i have with rafa

1)does he know how to work with forwards....goal scoring is an art which is borne out of playing EVERY MATCH IN THE SEASON...its all bout staying in touch and being given as much time as pss on the field...unfortunately rafa doesnt believe what i say....you cant play cisse/kuyt/crouch/bellamy/baros in 18/38 premiership games and hope they bang in the goals for u....he has to decide his front two and make sure they feature 99% of the time....its all bout partnerships in attack and ROTATION WILL NOT HELP!!!!!

2)buying squad players instead of goin for that final piece in the jigsaw....pellegrino,krompkamp,josemi,nunez,zenden are classical examples...we should have laid our hands on simao after the cl 2005....but who do we sign...........crouch!!!!!!!!!.....with all respect to crouchie he's not liverpool class...period.

3)not encouragin the academy products enough....blokes like lindfield have to be blooded in before swoopin for a coupla over rated hungarian teenagers!!!!

4)why does liverpool dispose off the likes of juve, barca, chelsea, milan, leverkusen in the champs league but struggle against the wigans and the fulhams of this world....its because rafa is ultra defensive and would rather eke out a borin 1-0 win than entertain the fans...a product of counter attackin football...

5)solution-buy a proven finisher and a classical right winger and bring the PREMIERSHIP TITLE TO ANFIELD ROAD........YNWA...

what a way to defray some costs..throw cisse into a deal. it could work because Benfica are in the CL, and are nearly guaranteed to be next year with their two biggest rivals arguably losing their best players yesterday. however, it seems as Cisse has drummed up enough interest throughout Europe to get himself a move. the guy truly loves 'pool, and I wish him luck. i mean, he was married in a RED suit.

as i've said before, simao and malouda would make great signings. and sadly, I think those may end up being the only two we make (along with veronin and lucas).

Let’s save any pessimism for the end of the transfer window eh?

as many have said, i vote we need a proven goal scorer, and a quality left winger. to be honest, im not really worried about our defense. we were solid enough in the back most of the season, and when we lost the key matches it was because we couldnt put the ball in the net, not because we let in a whole lot of goals.

i vote for either tevez or alves and then huntelaar. tevez would be great to have, and i would prefer him to alves, but i think alves (heerenveen) could probably get the job done as well. i mean, he scored 30+ goals for heerenveen, and if i remember right he scored more goals than games he played in. admittedly, this goal total was probably aided by the porous defenses of some of the clubs lower in the table, he seems to be the guy to create chances out of nothing. after tevez, i think it would be great to grab huntelaar as well. he is a great player, and while im not sure how well he would play coupled with tevez or alves, i think that a striker rotation of tevez/alves, huntelaar, kuyt, and crouch would be one of the strongest and most versatile attacks in the prem.

for the wing i would have to go with simao, but i sure would love to steal babel from ajax. i think that a lot of the young dutch / dutch league players are quite underrated. i mean, we managed to grab kuyt, one of the top scorers in the dutch league for a couple of years straight for a good price. i think babel would be a good addition, as he has proven himself at ajax and for the dutch nt.

as a point of interest, kuyt started out as a winger. i think* he was a right winger, but i think that with some work he could manage well enough on the left wing. certainly i think he could play better there than anyone we have right now. he is not the most technically gifted player on the pitch, but he is a hard worker and is consistent (and he rarely is injured!) on the whole, and he would run the opposing right backs ragged. i think it would be great to pick up two quality strikers and allow him to support, or be pushed off to the wing, depending on whatever crazy schemes rafa comes up with.

Agreed, I am slowly becoming bipolar just from reading these posts. First, it's good "news", then bad "news", then people worrying that our team won't be good enough, then everyone (including myself) weighing the pros and cons of players. Let's wait one more day, window opens tomorow, it will get even crazier, but maybe, just maybe, a little more clearer.

Well it’s created some fine discussion points, I do like it when someone throws in a rumour though, it’s good to discuss such option, but some of us have been a bit melodramatic. For example, the Eto’o article gets recycled and suddenly there is a massive climax over such a proposition. At least we aren’t discussing chocolate bars like Chelsea.

Wake me up when someone actually signs a contract.

We’ve signed three players.

I take it this means Milito is out of the question?

Unless Rafa wants Paletta to be gone and signs Milito, I really want us to sign Milito, even if I do have a soft spot for Zaragoza.

I honestly think you guys shouldn't sell Cisse (I might get bashed for saying this). :o

He has the quickness that you need up front plus he can be cylinical in his finishing. I just feel a vote of confidence from Benitez would do him wonders.
