I've never done this before, but I've just downloaded a patch and can't work out what the hell to do with it to update my game (01/02).
Any help?
Cheers

Which patch are you trying to use? We need more info if you want some help.

Well having looked at the properties of the patch it just says Championship Manager 01/02.lnk which I doubt is much help.
It was the latest update from the official site...dated from June...I wanted to be updated with signings etc...

There is no such thing as a patch that updatye properly. A patch may update signings to a certain time, but never updates the leagues accordingly. Which kingd of defeats the point. And tends to forget everything outside half a dozen divisions. If it isn't by SI it isn't a patch, but a cheating upate.

get the cm sorted data update, it's the best and most extensive i've seen.

it doesn't update the year, but promotions and relegations are taken care for most leagues, and all the major world transfers are taken care of.

the mls data is actually fairly decent, although not perfect.

Buggery, that's what I have...I thought that it was a patch...still not sure how to add it though.

if it's the cm sorted update, either it has an exe that installs or (i think), or you just unzip all the *.dat files in the zip to your cm3\data directiory, overwrite as neccesary.

You have to start a new game in order for the changes to take effect.

It's definitely the sorted update (version 23rd July 2002) but didn't come as a zip file or a dat file.
It's a .lnk file according to the properties.
It's not even a file that I can open in itself...would I need to download something to open it?

I hope I'm not being annoyingly inept :(

Annoyingly inept it is then!

Cheers mate, I'll give it a go and hopefully this will be the last of the thread :)

Sadly the saga continues...I downloaded the file and was given the option to unzip into the data directory...and did so (although there were no requests to overwrite which was odd).
All seemed well, and I started a new game (all old ones had already been deleted).
But all of the teams were still in the old divisions and the players were still in the same teams as the original version.
And there was I, hoping to reveal Colin Moyes of his post before he'd even begun :(
Does it sound like I've done anything wrong?
Perhaps when downloading?
ARGGGGGGGGH!

Did you unzip it to the right directory? Maybe the default directory is different from where your Championship Manager 0102/Data file is.

It did say it was unzipping to the data directory...unless that could mean more than one place.
I've looked in the data folder and can't find anything that has been modified recently though...might try a search to see if I can find the swines....

Hmmm these files have been modified...shouldn't this be right? C:\Program Files\Championship Manager 01-02\Data

Arghh (again).

Ok, may have found the problem, although it's dubious...my pc is Spanish, and this recently downloaded stuff comes with the english name here...but I also have another data directory with the Spanish title "C:\Archivos de programa\Championship Manager 01-02\Data" with archivos de programa meaning programme files.
Wouldn't the download recognise this as the correct file to unzip to?
If so, should I download again and put there, or simply cut and paste the files one by one?
Cheers

Sorted it!
Had to cut and paste into the Spanish named directory...and I thought my PC was bilingual!
Thanks to everyone who lent a hand...looks like the monologue is coming to an end.

P.S. For the next update, make sure Wayne Rooney's stats are better!
;)
