werder bremen needed an away goal.. it would've made things a bit better. next game is gonna be really really really tough, they would need 3 goals to make it even, which i know they are capable of.. but keeping a clean sheet seems highly unlikey.

werder can obviously do it. it's a matter of being ready. At home werder beat chelsea this year and i thought they could have played even better. We could have used mertesacker today.

i never said we played well... i am very disappointed in how we played actually... it doesn't mean that werder is a disgrace to german football though, does it?

Working, my friend...working. All I could rely on was UEFA.com's ticker. Believe me, I would have much preffered to have been in front of a TV watching it drinking while partaking of a nice dark ale.
actually, I don't think UEFA cups games are shown in the US!!

From what I read, he didn't say "Werder is a disgrace to German football", he said Werder's performance tonight was a disgrace to German football.
And there, he's right.

What a disappointing perfomance (especially tactically in the end of the game) from Werder in such an important match against a very aggressive Espanyol team! :(
PS: Klose & Frings should concentrate on the club who pays them ... and not on negotiations with other clubs at this important season stage! Both were awful 2night!

WOW i couldnt help but scream profanities at the tv all game long. The first 15 minutes looked like the Werder i know. Unbeaten in 12 matches straight, and then bam, all of the sudden we lose our balls and it was all down hill from there. I have to say the ONLY player who looked up to par today was Diego. Klose and Frings were nowhere to be found and our back line was atrocious....we need Borowski, Wome, and Mertesacker if we are going to do better

I think, Werder can still do it, win the cup. Let them come to your home and then, Rock'n Roll them out, like you've never done before! Show no fear, you have nothing more to loose, just rule them out!

i'm hoping the players have that enthusiasm and spirit.
schaaf says that the team is capable of turning this tie around, and sure they can, but it's gonna be hard. werder bremen can't afford any mistakes, one small mistake might end up being the biggest. what makes me doubtful for a place for them in the finals is the injured and suspended key players that bremen will sorely miss.

I don't completely agree with diego and Frings. Diego was definitely the most active Bremen player but he ended up losing many of the balls he had and was heavily marked by Espanyol players throughout. He seemed frustrated, and i don't think he played well at all.
Frings on the other hand i think played well. Had some good passes, 2 good crosses that could've ended up as goals if the attackers had been more useful, and Frings even had a good shot that was saved really nicely by the Espanyol keeper.
I do agree on Klose though, what a horrible performance by him! then again, like so many other of his performances in recent weeks...
