I woke up to google alerts about Houllier taking the job (http://www.eurosport.fr/football/ligue-1/2006-2007/sport_sto1182345.shtml) at Dynamo Kiev.
I'm not sure what to think about this. I'm not his biggest fan but I don't know how much better the possible replacements (Perrin, Puel, or Deschamps) are going to be.
Edit: Houllier denies it (http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2007/20070516_090441Dev.html).
Interesting.

houllier just rejected the rumor

I feel bad for the man, at least the french press aren't as pesky as their british counterparts

Yeah, it must be tough to be linked with a move away from the club every day. Yesterday it was Manchester City, today it's Kiev.
But the weird thing is that this was everywhere (though it started out in Le Parisien). Don't journalists check their facts before publishing a report so confidently?
I had a mini-heart attack this morning.

Just today, Houllier said he's happy at Lyon "for now (http://www.givemefootball.com/news.html?newsID=62342&type=international)" and needs to think about where his life is going. Despite assurances otherwise, he has exactly committed for the following season.
And then Aulas said this (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=467728&CPID=24&clid=143&lid=11&title=Aulas+not+worried+by+Houllier&channel=&):
"My position remains the same - Gerard is under contract and I want to keep him," Aulas told L'Equipe.
"I am totally satisfied with his job. I believe I have always been unquestionable with Gerard. I have always supported him.
"If he leaves it won't be my fault.
"Then, there are two cases - either the French federation won the lottery and will buy the last year of his contract, or Gerard prefers to leave for personal reasons.
"But I want him to stay. However, if you ask me if his departure would be catastrophic, I would reply no.
"I am not worried anymore. I will see Gerard on Tuesday or Wednesday, as we leave together for Athens for the Champions League final."
I believe Aulas when he says he would prefer Houllier to stay (though I think it's more a question of stability than satisfaction with his services), but I don't think Houllier is happy at Lyon. He's getting a lot of crap from the press, and Aulas has basically stated that Lacombe is the most important person in the club, which must annoy Houllier further.
Running Lyon is a lot of stress, and he doesn't love Lyon the way he does Liverpool. So I don't think his staying at the club would have anything to do any emotional ties to Lyon.

the weirdness with Houllier continued when i was watching the Fox Soccer Report today and when they started talking about Liverpool and the CL final they showed a picture of Houllier with the Liverpool logo next to him as if he was the current coach at Anfield.

And I'm sure Deschamps can do a better job than that. It sounds likes its already a done deal with him? Is this a good thing? I know that he got Juventus back up, but it was the serie b.

His interview (http://www.olweb.fr/index.php?lng=fr&a=33284&pid=101002) is on the official website.
I'm too lazy to translate so courtesy of google:
Gerard Houllier leaves the OL
President Jean-Michel Aulas and Gerard Houllier held a press conference to announce the departure of the Lyons trainer…
Jean-Michel Aulas:
“For some time, Gerard wondered about the heaviness of the spot with the OL. The season 2006-2007 will remain among most beautiful, if it is not most beautiful any more. A revealing course of the quality of the season. Gerard kindly requested Wednesday evening to me to agree to release it one year before the end of his contract. I thus have after reflexion and while thinking in the future, to accept his request. I would like to thus thank it as Patrice Bergues who arrived to him at the end of the contract. I worked with Gerard in a very good state of mind. I wanted to pay a homage vibrating to the trainer and the man”.
Gerard Houllier:
“Very happened in a very good climate. I made my decision in Athens. I wavered a long time before making this decision. I controlled the Formula 1 which gained 4 great prices with this 5th title initially, a record, and then the 6th history for the reasons which you know. We progressed during these 2 seasons. Certain players also progressed thanks to work of the staff and perhaps thanks to my philosophy of the play. There is perhaps a new dash to bring over one 3 years duration; these 3 years which will be important for the future of the club. Me, I did not feel to remain. I lived 2 exceptional seasons which pointed out to me what I lived in Liverpool. I make a point of thanking the supporters, really formidable. It is only for personal reasons that I leave, not of the reasons of health. I need to make a station-wagon, the point. I would not go in another club to France and a priori not, either, in a foreign club. In the immediate future, I will take holidays. I need rest. I do not leave because I do not have enough guarantees, being able, problems with certain people. Tensions? The road of success passes by tensions. The future will not be more difficult for the OL. The team will continue to progress and I am convinced that she will shine even more as League Champions. It is the end of cycle of one trainer with the OL. I do not have time and energy to invest me over one longer duration”.
After their remarks, the president and the trainer answered the media.
Is Gerard, which your more to remember?
“There is much of it. Among those, I think of our victory with Eindhoven. And which festival last weekend with St-Tropez”.
Will that be particular against Nantes?
“Inevitably. We wanted that the supporters know it front. With the OL, I continued to make progress the machine. There no was rupture. I benefit from it to thank everyone with the club and also the media. A word with my successor? That it makes confidence with the players”.
Jean-Michel Aulas where are you of the successor of Gerard?
“I always said that we were in alarm. To manage, it is to envisage. It will be hard to better do, but one will do it with passion. I point out that we gained 6 titles of champion with 3 different trainers and I have as an ambition to gain one 7th with one of them 4th. The trainers who want to come are numerous. It is not worthwhile to telephone. One will try to have the reflex to react very quickly. The bases are there. The group will move, but it will not be upset. The successor? That will go very quickly. He will be known in less than one week”.

The question is : can Deschamps get along with Aulas and Lacombe ?
I don't think he can. Neither can Puel, actually. Puel has free rein at Lille while Deschamps is having the same problems at Juventus that Houllier is having at Lyon.
As wonderful as Lacombe is, I think he's part of the problem. The best managers in Europe all demand freedom to do as they please - it's really hard to work with a sporting director who has more power than the manager, especially when it comes to player management. It's a rare man who can accept having a "boss."
Alain Perrin, in France Football, admitted that he would be okay with working under Lacombe.

From what i heard on TV it's more like Lippi to Juventus and Deschamps to Lyon.
Deschamps is a fantastic coach. If he goes to Lyon, they can win the CL. Look what he did with Monaco (CL final) and he did'nt have the players Lyon has.
IMO Deschamps > Lippi, Leguen, Houiller, ...
