But you prove my point with the name-calling. Why such hostility? Who wronged you in your life?
He's from Jersey so he's got more grease in his hair than Danny Zuko and Kenickie combined...cut him some slack.
And yes, the Army could be more productive if they sang American songs instead of sticking with "Insert 4-syllables here" followed by 5 claps or "Ole Ole Ole"

how about polish fans with Neo-Nazi flags and chanting monkey sounds at black players and boycotting matches if there is a jewish player.
But I still want to know how we are racist. Sams Army, La Norte, Screaming Eagles and USA Supporters Group, do not at all promote racism. Its all in fun, did you notice the Kiwi keeper joking at us? Obviously not. You say that all our songs were filled with foul language etc.. the two chants your talking about are only 2 of 10. Most of the match was spent singing the classic "ooh ohoh USA" song. (add as many Ohhs as you want). selective hearing is not a good thing.

On a different note can someone clear up the issue between USA supporters/Sams Army? I loved the atmosphere and was happy to add my 2 cents worth of help to it so I want to be connected with which ever or both of the groups that was most involved today. Especially the people who came up with the chants that our Orange loving "friend" so objects to
To make a long story very short, about 3 years ago a few of us thought that Sam's Army was getting too tame, so we started our own group which we called the USDA (for US Department of Aggro, a joke on 80s English hooligan groups, later renamed Yank Army because people took it too seriously and thought we really were hooligans). Then about a year ago some people more or less thought we had the right idea except they didn't want to be part of a group at all, so they just call themselves "USA Supporters", I view it more as a collection of individual supporters rather than another supporters group, but all of us(Yank Army and USA Supporters, and La Norte when we play in or near DC) more or less respect what Sam's Army has done in the past but believe that it is time for those of us who are willing to step our support up to the next level, and for those who are not willing, Sam's Army is great.

I'd like to hear some singing other than the standard college hoops cheer cadence for everything.

Good idea, guarantee that only the Army is vocal. Face it, anything more won't catch on. At USMNT games I'd rather have thousands more chanting "insert 4-syllabes here" or whatever rather than only the Army singing songs.

I agree that there were times when the old standbyes can be a little monotonous, but the problem with more complicated chants is first inventing them, second making sure that everyone in the stands knows them, and third, getting everyone together and in rythym. I know that several times some of the folks in front of me (on the front row) started up some complicated chants that i couldn't pick up and so people reverted back to the basic chants to make sure that the noise was there. The whole thing is damn tiring so while construcive criticism is fine lets keep it at that.

not to be picky, but we were in the North Stands.
And just a thank you for calling us La Norte. its not el. and its not degrading on anything mexican related. the group was started by latinos a few years ago, and i dont know many people who start organizations to make fun of themselves.

This was my 3rd time standing with people from La Norte at a US game...the main thing here is that the person I was replying to is a jackass.

America the Beautiful
Grand Ol' Flag
G-d Bless the USA (proud to be an american)
Battle Hymn of the Republic (Glory Glory Hallelujah)
America (My Country Tis of Thee--save it for when we ever play England)
The National Anthem
Stars and Stripes Forever (ok theres no words, but everyone still knows the melody)
Dixie (im from the North and I still like the song)
Yankee Doodle Dandy
G-d Bless America
The Marine's Hymn
The list goes on and on and on. Don't give me the old song and dance that you have to invent things. Some of these have been around since the 1700s and im sure anyone that is from the US knows at least 2 of them. At the USA/El Salvador match in November I was sitting a few sections away from Sams Army with some friends and we stood there the whole time singing them. I think the 5 of us and the few Screaming Eagles that joined in were louder than the Army's generic college hoops chant.

While that partly solves the first of the three issues I posed, I would still hold that those songs could use some creative editing so that they would fit with the game. Regardless, as Im a newbie at joing the supporters section I'll simply say that I for one was am still running on the adrenalin rush from being part of such a great group. Those with more experience can debate ways to improve-Im still reveling in the experience

My guess is that the other group in the West Stand was the Corner Kicks and a few other guys in the same section, we did a fair bit of chanting in the first half but we were smaller in numbers.
Ironically, most of the people in this group went off to join Sam's Army/Screaming Eagles/Whatever at half time.

thats awesome. great for joining us. once you get into it, you start judging rank by caps earned by nats matches youve attended. I am only fresh meat (5 caps) but i know some guys who are in their hundreds. :o
We could use some creative editing you're right. but alot of people didnt join in the songs we were going. like the "ohh, ohohoh USA" (add number of ohhs that you want) That song is great with a hundred guys singing it and just as good with 50.

Oh I wasnt criticizing more trying to defend my position that the current level of chanting is more than satisfactory against cliffkram's desire for complexity.
On caps is just games attended or games attended with the supporters? Also, do women's games counts I guess Im either at 4, 3, or 1 depending on how you count.
I was the guy with the slightly off color red shirt and the extremely curly brown hair by the way

Hello wake up. I'm for Sam's Army and they are not racist. I'm saying that there are plenty of racisms among supporters in Europe while Sam's Army is not. I repeat I DID NOT SAY SAM'S ARMY WAS RACIST. I'm for that joking around and I love it. Understand? Learn to read first.

im not saying that the songs/chants have to be complex. im just saying there should be some variety. besides there is nothing complex about singing "g-d bless america" or "america the beautiful"

the caps system is just a joke for old men to boast about. its like fish tales :D
to copaantl:
I was not saying Sams Army is racist or saying that you said we were. You said europeans are not. Someone else said sams army was. although my the posts seem to have been deleted. The part where i talked about Sams Army was not directed at you. Sorry for any confusion. I was telling tangerine that Sams Army is not racist, we do not support violence and do not support "hate speech" when it is outside of fun on both parties. No one there was getting aggresive. there is a line and we will not cross that line.
