View Full Version : Is big Sam the answer to Newcastle?

Learned that Newcastle is about to sign big Sam to a 13 mil deal. If it's true I'd wonder where Newcastle is heading to?
Question mark:
1. Does Big Sam got any other trick than the long ball into the box / set pieces tactic?
If the answer is YES, we have no idea how good it is, as so far his success mainly coming from the long ball game.
If the anwer is NO, how the players like Owen are going to fit into the long ball game?
2. Another Big Sam's success with Bolton is his ability to pull off bargain deals, mainly from journeymen like K.Davis, or over-the-hill yesterday's stars.
It's fine with Bolton. But a club like Newcastle, they are supposing to challenge the "big 4" aren't they? Or they will just settle to be an UEFA Cup qualifying side?
No disrespect to Sam, he's not a "big name" manager OUTSIDE the Premiership who could attact top class talents to the club. + his reputation of the long ball game, it ain't going to help attracting the skillful players.
The way I see it - it's ok Newcastle wanna give big sam a try, but a 13 millions contract for a manager who's untried for a big club? If things don't work out, the Toon Amy is most likely doing the same like they always did - paying off big money to the managers who they sacked.

Big Sam "The answer"? You have got to be kidding. Your lot will be working hard for a Uefa cup spot next season. Is that the answer they are looking for in toon land?

Yea, because we all don't get the opportunity to be guaranteed a CL spot every year by having to play the likes of Motherwell and Dunfermline in our league...

Just when I think your going to bring up LFC’s all time league record vs. the Toon (67-37-40 or something); you make a not so clever comparison with Celtic. Apples to oranges, but Celtic did very well against Milan in the round of 16 during CL play this year. Where were the Toon?
Nothing against Newcastle United, mind.

Are you not a Celtic fan? Have you not gone on and on about English oppression of your Irish ancestors? Is that not the Celtic logo in your avatar?
With all of those answers being yes the comparison was spot on.

I did see it; I typed it. ROFL. IMHO, Big Sam is not the answer at NUFC because I think the Geordies have CL ambitions and Big Sam won't deliver.
I still don't see what Big Sam has to do with Celtic.
PSST, (Celtic aren't even in the EPL) pass it on!

Apparently Big Sam has asked the fans to be patient.
He does realise this is Newcastle United. Lets be honest he's probably got 6 months to improve their fortunes. Otherwise the wise Shepard will have him out quicker than Ben Johnson running down hill to meet his dealer.

Newcastle has the money but they seem to spend it on the wrong players. I think Big Sam is the right man for the job.

He is certainly doing good so far. No Toon fan can help but be overjoyed to see some of the deadwood start to be thrown out. A few more, and we can start building a real team.

The problem with the Toon is they (esp. Shep)are so damn impatient that they are CONSTANTLY tearing up their team and rebuilding.
Usually goes like this (when they hire new man at the end of current season - if he is hired in midseason start at item #5):
1. Hire new manager at end of season,
2. Give him pounds to buy players and sell old ones that "don't fit'
3. Start season with 2 wins in 10 as team hasn't jelled yet
4. Fire manager before Christmas break
5. Hire "caretaker" or new "permanent" guy
6. Team starts to do better as they jell and "new ideas" take hold (and perhaps buy 2-3 players at winter break)
7. NUFC moves up table to finish right out of or just in lowest level of European comps.
8. Freddy convinced he finally has his man
9. Manager tears up team selling off players who "don't fit" and buying new ones.
10, Start off 2 of 10 and repeat cycle.
Until this changes SAF, Arsene, Jose, God himself, wouldn't win at NUFC.
Can Big Sam win there? Tell me how much time he has and then I might be able to answer that question.

Only twelve top ten finishes since 1955. You make it sound like Newcastle are a club that is used to success. Newcastle's trophies have collected so much dust, they are now similar size to the moon and might soon have their own atmosphere.
Sam Allardyce is one of the best managers in the Premiership. Along with Moyes, Wenger, Mourinho, Joll, and Fergie. He managed Bolton before. So I can't see how they are that much different than Newcastle? Other than he's got more money to spend on players.

Thats the first thing they mail to you when you send in two Proofs of Purchase a from the box tops...except the Gaffer does not have to send anything in.

Truely if you wish to see what infinity looks like in the linear, Euclidean sense, gaze upon our trophy case.
Sam will do well, provided the inept Fat One™ lets him.
