Sunderland could possibly be the perfect pick for the topic starter (if he's still looking for a club).

As for Everton, they rue the day that they were split and liverpool was formed, coz ever since then..Liverpool has achieved nothing but greatness..while everton going downhill.

Prove me wrong people..prove me wrong.

Liverpool was formed in 1892, that was before the English league was formed.

So if Everton "rued the day" they left Anfield. That means that Liverpool have been succesful ever since, as you clearly started yourself. "ever since".

Well, Everton won their 7th league title in 1970. That is 78 years from the foundation of Liverpool. At that period, Liverpool had won 6 league titles. Everton had also won 3 FA Cups compared to Liverpools one.

It took 82 years for Liverpool to actually finish above Everton more times than Everton finished above them.

It took 83 years for Liverpool to actually win more league titles

It took 107 years for Liverpool to actually win more FA Cups.

So Everton haven't rued the DAY they left Anfield. Just since the seventies :D

If all that is true, then you've made a damn good argument. Well done.

Crap, my perfect plan to slowly turn all Americans into Sunderland supporters has been uncovered. Oh well, Sunderland can always rely on the Irish for overseas support! ;)

The Football League's first season was in 1888/89.

I'm a new US fan that is hoping to get into the EPL and have a favorite EPL team find me via a season of football absorption.

I got into soccer watching the last world cup. I was lined up to carry the momentum into following the 06-07 EPL, but I had a family emergency right around the start of last season that kept me from really getting into it. So here I am again, all lined up. I have an idea about a couple of teams I might like, but it will definitely take soaking in a season or two for me to see what is a good fit for me. I have read all of the various "I'm a new US fan looking for a team" threads and articles and love all of the passion and commentary they bring forth.

Here's a question...I have Fox Soccer channel and GOL TV on digital cable and I will not have directv during this season. Are there any other options in the US for viewing games (outside of finding bars with directv that open early to show matches)? Is there an internet package like mlb.tv where you can purchase a subscription to watch all of the matches? Is there an online radio package?

Sirius Satellite covers EPL matches but none of the other leagues Coke etc.

Maybe Sentanta? Though I think they're only available through the satellite TV companies but am not sure....

My advice is to not pick a team, let a team pick you. Watch as much football and you can in the first month or so, I guarentee by the end of September you'll know who you like and who you don't.

Us English don't get a choice. Its something the majority of us are born into. Some of us are blessed some of us not so. Read into that whatever you will.

I like going into a new league and picking the least bandwagon-y team possible. Hence the TFC choice.

Go all out and cheer for Birmingham City. That's my plan.

Birmingham City.

We're the single biggest under-achievers in English Football, thats why you should support us. It's not an easy ride, but one day we will win something, i can feel it.

As our anthem goes: "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road".

You know the score.

I aggreee with the Blue boy there. Watch the EPL for a time and one will grow on ya. I am an American as well and I love the existence of FSC. Finally I can watch a lot of football.
I have been a WEst ham fan since 1977. This season I loved to watch them fight to stay up and watching the up and coming Portsmouth and Reading was great. My favorite Keeper is James. He has such a presence in goal. Can't wait 'till he gets old and comes to the States.

To all new comers, support Leicester City
Youll thank me when we get promotion next season and become giant killing machine.
Plus we have Milan Mandaric, a lower team's dream version of Roman Abram-a-whatever.
and the Championship is more competitive than the premiership, we don't know who will finish in the top 6 unlike in the premiership.

I read some responses, as well as the article by Mr. Simmons, and I have to disagree wholeheartedly. Manchester United as the European All-Star team? Sorry bud, but get back to that research. Also proving that he didn't do nearly as much research as he should have, under the section where he lists the big name players for Spurs, he has Keane and Lennon in there.....but no Berbatov? What? Yes, let's throw a moderately good striker in there, but leave out one of the most up and coming forwards in the game....

Anyways, as far as staying on topic goes, I would have to recommend Spurs. I'm a United supporter first, and a Spurs fan second. I like United's history, I'm a fan of many of the past and present players, and I enjoy watching the game that they play.
