TBM, I gather you enjoy skiing then?
I went skiing in Argentina nearly 2 years back - didn't find it fun at all. I went to the top of each slope, and skied down...and basically did it all over again. No matter what trail I went on, I just found the whole concept of going from the top to the bottom of the hill in the coldness pretty bland. The only real variation was how fast you could. Maybe it's just not for me, or maybe I was missing something.
Snowboarding was a lot more enjoyable though.
Although I'd rather just do road-running then either of them...

was that your first time R&W? i can see how that is a drag. i have been skiing since i was 3 and racing for a while. i can't live without the cold and snow. i could also see how kicking a white ball into a net is also bland. it's all what you make of it. ill see if i can get someone to take some pictures on sunday.

most of the joy from skiing i get is the blast i have with my friends.. we carve thru the woods and whatnot. after spending my whole life on downhills, two years ago I got a set of twin-tips, and freestyle is the most fun you can have, IMO. But Argentina... damn. I'd love to get anywhere away from the crap hills we have in my area... 900 feet of vertical is about the equivilant of fun as using SG studs on field turf, but thats only if you downhill ski only.

I live in upstate NY, and before any of my friends or myself could drive, I had to go to Swain "mountain," where our school's ski club went, which has just over 700 feet of vertical, and maybe 13 trails. 5 minutes up the lift, and 45 seconds down. Luckily the guys who ran the terrain park knew what they were doing, so it was worth it for the few years.
Now we go to Bristol Mt, which isnt bad and has two amazing parks, about 1300 ft, or Greek Peak which is about 950. I went to Park City in '04 to Solitude and SnowBird, and that was abolutely amazing.

I've never been skiing. It is something i'd like to try though. I think i'd probably enjoy snowboarding more. But saying that, id probably land on my face!! :D

Skiing was easy to start, but I found it hard to get very good at it. Snowboarding meanwhile took about 2 hours of falling until I could get down a slope. But once I had got that, I was really at ease with it, and found it quite fun.
I did however think that it would be more fun then it was...
But hey, different strokes for different folks - I'm glad I've given it a try.

I've heard of the snowdome yup, never been there though, heard its pretty expensive!
It depends which placement i get sent on as to which hospital i work at. I've not been sent to Hartlands yet though!

R&W, a few of my friends have told me the exact same thing. You can kind of compare it to video games. Skiing is like a sports game: easy to pick up and play right away, yet can get very boring very quickly. And snowboarding is like a strategy game: boring and hard at first, yet really fun and challenging after a little while.

you're more apt to land on your arse then your face when just starting, typically. But if you think you'll like snowboarding more, then don't try skiing first. I've been skiing my whole life and I've tried snowboarding a number of times but the feeling of going down sideways is always awkward, despite how many times i do it.
