I've been waiting for someone to open something like this, but maybe you guys are just too modest.
Sometimes y'all mention your own football games - playing, coaching or even refereeing. I'd like to hear about them. You know, funny stories & situations, and some bragging is always good as long as you admit the embarrassing stuff too. Heh, sometimes you're the hero and sometimes you're the goat. :p
One of my favorite series of posts was when LosMerengues wrote about missing a penalty kick and then several of you gave some tips and words of encouragement and also made some shop talk about boots & stuff. I liked this very much and thought it might be good to have a place for this. Which of you play or coach and how is your team doing?

Well my season at school is already over, but it barely started really. I was injured throughout most of it. I'm not exactly injury-prone, but this season has just been a nightmare.
If I get good enough grades, I'll be playing in London next year. I'm not going to join the University team because I'm probably not good enough, and not keen enough. It's hard to find pitches in London, so the team has to take a 2 hour bus journey out of London to practice/play. I love football, but not THAT much!
EDIT: Instead, I've already joined a team that just plays other teams from the same university. Nothing exciting really...
EDIT 2: I still suck at penalties. :o

I had played a game yesterday, not full size pitch , more 7-on-7
Got to say its the most amazing pitch i've played on, grass looks as good as the one in the Bernabeau, although being rubber :) the ball moves so nicely on it, very smooth and has that nice sound when a change of speed occurs..
Anyway, its this intramunel tournament that the university has organized, knockout system but we get to play 2 legs, the 2nd being the one i played yesterday, 1st game finished 1-1, we won yesterday's game 3-0 :) woo woo..
Was very rough, saw some very dirty tackles since there was a lot of heat & friction between the teams since the 1st leg, ( bayern munich anyone? ) a fight almost broke out after the game finished but eventually nothing happened ( where was youngstarz to throw a few punches ) :P haha..
Anyway, we're up against the tournament favorites in our next game.. Will keep you guys informed on how badly we get wooped..

Is it the new one next to Champions? If yes that pitch is SWEET !! I played there 2-3 days ago, i nearly scored a goal of a clearance :p the keeper was off his line and he was barely able to track back and tip it over. We lost the game though :o our team got tired in the end and suddenly everyone wanted my place in goal :p Needless to say you put a tired person in goal who can't even keep in the first place and the goals are bound to keep pouring in me coming out with fresh legs did help i was able to score off a counter attack and managed two off the line clearances. We lost by one goal, huge scoreline though 10-9 ? Before you get any ideas i only conceded 3 of those 10.

My friend rented it, but man the 18yrd box is too small i felt caged in every time the other team had a one on one ( for those reading the "18 yrd box" is smaller than a the 6 yrd box :p ) Other than that the pitch is perfect ! I definitely need to play there again before i head over back to uni next week!

Coolest place I've played is inside a cage on a Hong Kong roof-top. It wasn't great weather though. I'm definitely going again.

I went for Futsal last night and scored a really good goal. I took the ball from the keeper near my goal, played a back-heel one-two around the first defender, lobbed it over the next, nutmegged the last defender and finished it to the keepers right into the bottom corner :o . We won that game 4-2
I love playing Futsal, sometimes even more than normal 11-a-side. You're more free to try things you wouldn't normally go for on a full-size grass pitch. My football coach at school is a 'Capello' . He starts throwing fits every time someone tries to do a little trick. We're doing decent though. I play on the right and I don't have much speed [partly why I like Futsal, because the pitch is smaller ^_^] but luckily I have a decent cross on me, so that keeps me in the team :-P .
P.s : I found those PK taking tips you guys gave to LM89 very useful. I was a horrible and extremely nervous PK taker before, I'm not great now,I'd like to think that I've improved :-)

The best football i played was when i was in college [around 1 and half years back] .. We used to play in this place called 'Monkey Valley' [seriously, no clue why it was called that, other than that it was in a forest] .. Though it wasn't really huge, it was perfect for 6 or 7 players per team .. And the whole area was so quiet, some natural grass ..
Used to play LB, though right footed .. Practiced passing, shooting with my left foot a lot but .. Hardly scored but had a few assists .. Was usually the player who ran the most, everyday .. :D .. ANd was really really exhausting .. We played liek 3-4 hours everyday [4-5 days a week], until the sun set ..

I play some social 9 v 9 (sometimes 11 v 11) on full sized pitches, it's a every saturday event organised by our Uni Gym, its awesome :p I play LM, usually too lazy to run back, and I'm Captain, so I sit on sideline and holler at my team to get back LOL.
Basically, I lived in a Hall of Residence (basically an accomodation building orientated for 1st and 2nd year Uni students, all hall spirit and that type of thang) for 2 years, so I cherry picked all the best players from both years (most of them are my good mates, and afew of them are my flatmates), so our team is mainly 3rd years (like myself) and some 2nd years, it's all the relatively good players who have played before and have a clue; No more random hall guys who sucked!
MY RECAP OF GLOR(IOUS) TIMES!
NOTE: I am not being racist! :D
Anyway, we had a rough start, lost 0-1 to an Asian hardout fit team (they all had custom red very Liverpool-esque Adidas tops WITH NUMBERS), who were actually not very good, but we were terrible. First game though, meh.
Then the week after we played an Indian team (quite technical and flamboyant), we played much better, did a corner that resulted in a Zidane-esque volley that looped up high then dipped, the keeper was absolutely horrible though he basically slapped it in hahah! I claimed the assist though! Up 3-2! But they equalised in like 2 minutes. But in the last 5 minutes we lost concentration, and they scored twice, I raged at my Croatian mate/flatmate/defender when they scored the fourth goal, who nutted back, this is social football people, our team was telling us two two shutup. But we kissed and made up later on haha!
Then last weekend we played this years Hayward (my Hall of Residence) team (and since it has afew people I know on it, lots of trash was being talked), who we were all fearing since we had heard 'rumours' they had thrashed that aforementioned Liverpool/Asian 10-0, so we were all kinda apprehensive but pumped .. we ended up winning 10-1, booyah! I did two very nice assists (both crosses from the left, first was a header goal, second was a scuffed volley), and I scored from halfway when their dispairing keeper dribbled out two strikers before I rushed in, took the ball off him, then just smacked it as hard as I could .. damn that felt good!
Very amping hah! Turns out they beat the whipping boys of the social games, who had lost 40-0 the week before.
We're playing some hardcore sports club this saturday, so should be a good game, we're all pretty confident. Training at 5!
PS. Hahaha at this massive raaaaaaaaaaaaaaant, awesome

I'm going off-sport here, so bear with me, but when you said you played in a cage, (which I assume is to keep the players from falling off the roof) and about the bad weather, it reminded me of the weirdest place that I ever played a game.
I once played a game (water polo) in Sydney harbour and they had to have netting around the playing area to keep the sharks out. Basically, it was a big floating rectangular dock. They float goals at each end and there is a shark net hung underwater around the entire thing. You have no idea if the net is really there or is in good repair, but you just play anyways. There was a big storm that week so the water was ridiculously choppy, it was freezing cold (early Sept) and it was raining buckets.
It was one of the funnest games I've ever played.

^No, the cage was there simply to be like the Nike Cage commercials, if you remember from a couple years back. Except the goals aren't the size of shoe boxes. Anyway, I heard recently they replaced it with netting instead. :( It just doesn't sounds as cool.

Today my team scored a replica of Morientes' goal against us a few weeks ago. I got the ball on the right, beat my man and put a cross from near the touchline almost inch-perfect onto the boot of the attacker who finished it just like Moro did.
I love laying on goals for my team mates :D Unfortunately we called the game off because there was a mass-brawl after the scores were level at 1-1 :p Enjoyed it, though haha.

I used to play every Saturday at a park in Long Beach, usually it was 11 v 11; but this semester I stopped since I have to pull up my GPA. :(
The best goal I've scored is when I played a one-two with my teammate from the kick-off (the other team just scored) and then dribbled past 3 before scoring.
I miss playing. :(

How would an hour's footy in a week hurt your grades :( . Cut down on something else, like CuleTime

Bah, played a team of afew adult-y guys, they only had 8 players, so it was a 8on8.
We ended up drawing 3-3, and the GK saved a 1on1 from me .. I take full blame for our 'loss'. :(

Changing the topic a bit, but Fifa 08 is coming out this year and
FIFA 08 will be released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC, PS2, DS, PSP and mobile this autumn, Electronic Arts said today.
Ronaldinho will be on the cover, with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Miroslav Klose also cosying up to EA for promotional purposes.
It's also the first time that FIFA will have appeared on either PlayStation 3 or Wii.
The stars involved - also including Frenchmen Frank Ribery and Florent Malouda - are currently doing a bit of body motion-capture in Barcelona.
EA aims to capture "the body movements, individual moves and playing style of each athlete" so that we'll be able to enjoy the benefits in the autumn.
"The access, guidance and insight they give us means that FIFA 08 will create a next gen experience that not only looks authentic, but that captures the emotion, finesse and beauty of the game," says producer Joe Booth.

bah Legacy :D
AN UPDATE ON MY GLORIOUS LAST GAME, before our 'international break' (we start again next semester, in like 1.5 months. bah).
Update .. we lost 4-0 against a team which had a monstrously good attack. They were our uni's pharmacy team (my croatian friend/flatmate/centreback extraordinaire is a pharmacy student, so he hyped us all).
BUT:
they played 10 against our 9, bah, I saw that at the start of the game, but forgot to tell the ref LOL. Good one idiot.
Our GK dropped a rebound straight at their striker, GOAL. He then goal kicked a ball straight at their striker, GOAL. The ref blew an offside then let it go, GOAL. They scored one incredible long ranger though. New GK applications coming to a house near you.
So we played alright, we just got shafted :D

^^lol :p
Football is sometimes a harsh game.....
Like last week I was playing with my mates. It was a 7 v 7, 60mins game non-stop. We were getting a draw considering the best 3(attacking) players were in the other team. I usually play CB or DM and I blew my team's chance because I tried to do a bi-cycle kick which I failed to do miserably and their forward just robbed me off the ball and scored an absolute screamer. :o Game over 6-5.
Then I realized how Chica(Espanyol LB) felt when Higuain robbed the ball off him and scored the winner. :D
