A new season starts in two months, and preseason games begin in early July.
Brno, Stare Mesto and Liberec will have a short off-season because they have entered the Inter-Toto Cup.
There are some interesting transfer rumours floating around the Czech Republic during the off-season.
Grygera (Sparta) might be going to either CSKA Moscow, Arsenal, Juventus or Dortmund. Sverkos (Ostrava) who was one of the top scorers in the league as a 19-year old might be on his way to Lokomotiv Moscow.
Olomouc has lost two key players in the back. Rozehnal has left the club for Brugges ($750,000 transfer fee) and Kovac has left for Sparta Praha. Kovac is one of the best young defenders in the Czech league, and he will certainly be missed.

Even though the season just ended about three weeks ago, preperations for the 2003/04 have already started.
Brno beat Postorna (Div III) 4-0 a few days ago. Brno hosts Kotajk Abovjan (Armenia) this weekend in the first round of the Inter-Toto Cup.

Anybody got any idea when the fixtures are coming out? I may be in Prague for the first weekend in August and it'd be nice to see a game after failing to the previous two times I was there.

Last season, they started July 28 so I'd imagine you're in luck.
They'll probably set the schedule pretty soon.

I believe the transfer period ends during the last few days of January, but I am not 100% positive. I don't think anyone can sign new players after the winter break.

Interesting to see Slavia and Sparta both struggle in the first round. One can only assume that they both played with mostly reserves...
Impressive win by Sigma over a much weaker Hulin club. I think Sigma plays Unicov (Div III) in the next round. I was at the Sigma-Unicov 2nd round game last year and Sigma rolled over Unicov 5-0.

Slavia played a virtual reserve team but as the game wore on, several first-team players came on as substitutes. Eventually Kuka equalised with a mere 15 minutes to go.
The reason given was that after playing 9 (!) pre-season games in Germany, some of the squad were either injured or tired.
As usual, the main ambition is to finally qualify for the Champions League but should they beat Leotar they will face Celta De Vigo - not the best draw they could've had.

Thanks SS...
Did you get a chance to see the Slavia-Zizkov game? I heard that Slavia dominated the match...
Ostrava beat Ceske Budjeovice 3-1 today.

Back in Scotland so didn't see the match. Those who did assure me Slavia dominated and looked quite sharp. The first goal was fortunate though, the ball was cleared and deflected off Pitak and into the net. Zizkov appear not to have lost the physical aspects of their game, with Slavia's Brazilian Adauto apparently on the receiving end of some tough tackling.
I'm told Ostrava were impressive today. It will be interesting to see how Brno & Liberec perform over the next couple of days. Hopefully this season will be a lot closer - as long as Slavia manage to triumph in the end !

Results from the weekend...
Jablonec 0 Sigma 2 :D
Blsany 0 Slavia Praha 2
Plzen 0 Zizkov 2
Brno 3 Synot Stare Mesto 1
Ostrava 1 Liberec 1
Sparta Praha 4 Opava 0
Two games on Monday:
Pribram at Teplice
Ceske Budejovice at Zlin
Good to see Sigma score a few goals and get an important road victory. They struggled all of last year on the road. Sigma and Slavia are tied for first place...
Sigma "B" defeated Sparta "B" 2-0 in the second division today. It is always great to beat Sparta... at any level. :D

Round 4
Zlin 0 Liberec 0
Brno 2 Zizkov 1
Ostrava 5 Blsany 2
Teplice 2 Opava 0
Plzen 2 Slavia Praha 1
Jablonec 1 Synot 0
Pribram 1 Olomouc 1 :)
Sparta Praha-Ceske Budejovice (played on Monday)
Plzen beating Slavia Praha is a huge shock. It appears that Blsany are destined for the second division. Ceske Budejovice are probably not far behind them. Sigma Olomouc came away with a good result on the road. Althought they did have a 1-0 lead until Pribram scored in the 69th minute.
