It's unfortunate that the Burn have a USOC game, and the Fire don't, right before this game. But then again I'm sure the Fire are happy they lost to their own reserve team.

Victory is at hand, bring on the Brimstone Cup!

Nothing more than a tune-up.

Johnny Cash recorded this great song way back in 63. It is most appropriate for this rivalry.

Love Is A Burning Thing
And It Makes A Fiery Ring
Bound By Wild Desire
I Fell Into A Ring Of Fire

CHORUS:
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher

And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire

Any chance of ESPN using it during the pre-game intro? Even better would be if the Cotton Bowl PA scrapped welcome to the jungle for this game and went with this song instead.

Actually I prefer this one.

"An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
A'plowin' through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns wuz black and shiny and their hot breaths he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the riders comin' hard and he heard their mournful cry

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, and shirts all soaked with sweat
They're ridin' hard to catch that herd but they ain't caught them yet
They've got to ride forever in that range up in the sky
On horses snortin' fire, as they ride on, hear their cry

As the riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name
"If you want to save your soul from hell a' ridin' on our range"
"Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride"
"A-tryin' to catch the Devil's herd across these endless skies."

Yi-pi-yi-ay, Yi-pi-yi-o
Ghost riders in the sky
Ghost riders in the sky"

Definitely the best Cash song ever, though actually a cover as I discovered when searching for these lyrics. You'll notice that it does involve fire-breathing horses. If we could just modify the lyrics to indicate that we are sending our opponents to hell, it would be perfect!

Just imagine thousands wailing, "Yippee aye AAY, Yippee aye OHH!" at top volume with an appropriate Burn line at the end, man that would be awesome.

After my 2+ week vacation, I am glad to be back to see the Burn take on the goons from Chicago. The Fire will know what hell feels like Saturday afternoon courtesy of the Burn and its fans. Btw, did you see what that Ukranian assassin tried to do to his fellow goon Beasely during the all star game. Typical goon stupidity on a grand scale.

Well they could if they wanted to, it's not like the Fire haven't ever heard that song before. It was always played during warmups at Soldier Field.

I'm trying to get a read on this one, and from looking at the last couple of Burn matches, does Jeffries just pick his attacking mids and forwards out of a hat for any given game? I'm guessing the "A" guys are still Pareja, Vaca, Martinez and any two from the Cerritos/Kreis/Rhine pool, with O'Brien and Johnson typically coming off the bench, right?

And that 4-0 loss to SJ just sorta jumped out at me when I was looking at the scores. One bad night out for the defense, or are they as schizophrenic as the Fire's offense? That certainly could make things interesting.

No they are SOLID, with occational bone headed mistakes (but none as bad as Dema at the All Stars :)). In the @ San Jose game where we suffered a melt down. I believe T-Bone got injured 2 mins in, we concided the goal, he came off. Was Suarez playing? I dont think so though I could be wrong. Pareja was out and he's like the back bone of this team. Hes the leader, without old el Guapo, we're el screwed

The Burn midfield usually lines up as follows:
Chivas (left)
Vaca(right)
Deering(d-mid)
Pareja (a-mid)

O'Brien has been subbing in for Vaca.
Olivares has subbed in for Martinez a couple of times.

The starting forwards are Kreis and Rhine. With Cerritos and Johnson backing them up.

The 4-0 was aberration this season. Jorge "Zarco" Rodriguez is usually the first guy off the bench when a defensive player is needed. However, for that game in particular coach Jeffries chose not to play him for disciplinary reasons when T-Bone went down with an injury.

Overall, the defense of the Red and Black has been quite solid this season. They gave up 3 to LA in a game, but other than those two games (SJ-4) they have been steady.

Chicago's offensive schizophrenia has got nothing on Dallas's. Some games they put in everything they touch even when they misshit the ball, and in other games they create tons of chances but convert none of them.

Buzz, on your site's lineup you show Chicago with two left midfielders. Is this correct and if so is one deep or somesuch?

All bow to the all-knowing 1997 US Open Cup Champions... How many victories did that achievement entail, again?
