copied from the other thread:

I really liked what I saw out of Kpene. he was very active and showed a nice bag of tricks, plus he was constantly looking to push toward goal.

I thought Moose showed some good and some bad, but I generally liked what we got out of him too. I wished a couple times that he had taken his defender on rather than playing a safe ball, but he did enough for me to be satisfied.

It seemed like the team as a whole made a concerted effort to use the flanks in the attack, with both goals coming from there. Bringing in Casal at the half drove this point home even more. In fact, both goals were a direct result of the Casal sub, as he pushed Ben out to the right side, which is where he crossed in for the first goal, and Casal drew the penalty on the left side.

Carroll was better than the first few games, and I liked Olsen and the back 4 for the most part. Gomez was pretty lousy aside from the goal, and Jaime didn't do much until holding the ball up well to kill the clock late in the match. (plus the serious cajones he showed with that cheeky PK)

I like that Soehn realized the folly of trying to funnel the attack through 9 defenders in the box, and finally got the team to use the flanks, and I like that he used his bench in this 3-game week to help keep players fresh later in the season.

We stink.

Perkins: 5.5
Namoff: 5
Erpen: 4
Boswell: 5.5
Gros: 3
Moose: 3.5
Carroll: 4
Olsen: 5
Gomez: 5
Moreno: 3
Kpene: 6

Gros is miserable in the back. Moreno simply can't move!!! Our brightest spot was Kpene, who looked very good with his back to goal, and his distribution was quite strong. Just be glad Chivas is putrid.

Best match of the year. Kpene showed a lot, as did Casal and Moose. Defense played much better than they have all year.

Once Fred is healthy, I think Moreno sits and becomes a super sub, he just doesn't have the motor to go all-out of 90 minutes any more.

BTW, has anyone ever seen a bicycle kick back pass to the keeper before? Just curious. :)

Got the 3 points we needed. The urgency was there. Great game from Troy. Gros prooved that he's not a left back (not that we have a whole lot of choices).

No. No I haven't. And if I never see one again, it'll be too soon.

Yeah, Gros got beat on that goal way too easily...on a side note, watched the game on Telefutura and it was extremely enjoyable!

Kpene showed a lot and I really like the energy Moose brings to the field.

Perkins won us this game and some of the thing Erpen did make me believe he is getting his confidence back.

Casal is a player! - he needs to get alot more minutes.
.
Kpene has lots of potential as well (buh-bye Jamil Walker).
.
Moose is a perfect late-match energy sub that hopefully grows into a full time player.
.
LOTS of depth in the midfield and up front. Hopefully this new trialist will provide some coverage in the back.

That was my first, Facu is fearless, or just too dumb to worry. I find him very entertaining, you just don't know what to expect. The Spanish TV broadcasters were comparing him to Jackie Chan (they were hyping a Chan flick to be aied later).

Erpen had two or three good scoring opportunities, fortunately Perkins was there on all of those occasions.

Maybe, but Gros made Erpen look all world today.

Overall it was a better effort. Maybe because it was a win.

Let us hope we never see Gros at left back again. It is just not meant to be. It might be time to give Wilson another chance.

I think that Olsen might not be too bad a player if we cut off his hands and tape his mouth shut. Too slow in deciding where to pass the ball. Killed several attacks. Did make the pass that Kpene flicked on for the goal.

Erpen's back passes were getting progressively more difficult for Perkins to handle. One more and I was sure it would be an own-goal.

Casal and deRoux really picked up the wing play in the second half after the ineffective wing play of the first half. Nice to see. With Casal playing on the bench side early in the second half, Soehn was giving him a lot of personal instruction. It seemed to help.

Its a win, so we take it and hope for more improvement next week.

Few quick points:

- The Chivas offense was sputtering in the first half because of Cunliffe. Had they started Merlin I think we might have had a very different game.

- We were not at all impressive in the last 15 minutes. We gave Chivas chance after chance to equalize. Gotta learn how to shut down a game.

- I'm increasingly convinced that we shoud play Moose until he settles into the position. It'll cost us a bit in the short run, but in the long run it may worth it.

I love when Facu pulls a bike out of nowhere, even when it's a terrible idea.
Benny was invisible until around the 40th minute.
Carrol didn't show well enough to be starting above Simms when he's healthy.
Gomez showed absolutely nothing with the exception of the goal, which was more luck than anything.
Moreno simply shouldn't have been playing, he showed nothing. The PK was a gimme.
I felt the backline did an adequate job. I don't recall seeing Boswell having to do much throughout the match. Namoff, Erpen, and Gros were all over the place.
The ref made some ridiculous calls and gave cards for extremely minor (or non-existent) infractions.
We won this match because Chivas played like crap, and not because we did anything exceptional.

I do wonder where McTavish will play. He was a left back in college I think, so I would he'll get a run out in that spot once he gets over his injury.

Obviously, Erpen's bike to Perkins was just to keep him on his toes. And he (Perkins) was my MOTM.

Other good performances came from Bos and Namoff. Kpene can play, Casal stretched play on both wings, and Moose had some very good moments and some not-so-good. He seemed very deflated to be benched for the second half, and teammates came by to cheer him up. I yelled his name and gave him a thumbs up, but I'm not sure he heard it.

Gomez had a great goal, but he was pushed back to very deep in the midfield so it was difficult for him to link up with an attacker. Jaime had some good moments, but I would rather he didn't start. I especially hope he isn't expected to go a full 90 again.

The guys on TV were saying they saw him walking of the field with a limp going in to the half...so maybe he was hurt.

The bicycle kick was not a back pass to Perkins.

Hope Moose is not injured. I liked what he showed. Kpene and Luciano would make a good forward tandem. Gros tried to give the game away but luckily the cross was too Mendoza who at 5'2" does not have much heading experience.
