So I'm a long time soccer fan but I've never done anything but just kick a ball in my backyard. I'm now coaching my son's team and having a blast doing it. However, I'm really anxious to actually start playing. I signed up for a Park District league that will start up later this summer. I've heard the league is made up of guys between 21 - 45 with a wide array of talent (I'm 39).

I want to do everything I can to try and get ready as I'm deathly nervous about looking like a dork. I've been working on my fitness (shuttle runs) and just taking a few balls out on the pitch and knocking them around with 8-year-old boy. I feel like I'm really good shape but what do you all recommend in terms of either drills or exercises I can do to raise my game.

I've tried in vain to get some 3x3 games going. Any suggestions?

It all depends on what you need to work on. If you need to work on your touch try juggling or doing tick-tocks and such. For your shot try watching some professional players shoot and see what works best for you. Other than that just try to play at least one 11v11 game and then see what you need to work on then try to improve.

I would start playing pickup games and see what you need to work on
