It looked like a pulled groin made worse by his long clearance. I pointed out to my wife that he was hobbling as he waited for the cross at the back post.

If it's bad he could be out for weeks.

My bet is that it will be faked until he can work out something for the apertura in Argentina.

Haydon's Washington Times article has an interesting quote ...

I know how I read that quote. What do you take out of it?

He's saying that all of his proof is in the numerous valuable games he has put together and "That's soccer."

Yet, I believe that it is time that he come up with an injury at practice that the club "varifies" and Moreno be sat down. And, perhaps, a little diet during his injury time out with square off his round shoulders and soft middle. He looks fat.

Bottom line Moreno is an old 33.

Only goal came on Boz getting caught upfield instead of staying back and defending during the transition to NE. He stays back and Troy makes the save and Boz clears it. I guess this is the biggest difference in his game and Nelsen. Boz needs to grow and take his game to the next level and I am not seeing it right now. Nelsen just read the play better. Hope Boz learns to do this also.

I didn't see the play when it happened, so I can comment on that.

But I do think that Bobby Boswell does not have that "don't mess with me" look on his face anymore.

Sounds like someone is pretty pissed off and not very interested in earning his PT. Rightfully so, perhaps.

But I think he needs to prove something. He needs to prove that he can play 90 minutes, or at the minimum 60 effective minutes, if he wants to start. From a coaches POV, with only 3 subs including the goalie, you don't want to start a game with two guys you aren't sure can go the whole game (read: Gomez and Moreno).

There is a reason players start retiring at his age.

As Dave pointed out to me last night-if it's 2 weeks he might be ready for the game in Toronto, May 19 (lucky we have a break again next weekend).

At home, a man advantage, and the pressure to secure the first win in 6 matches should have been the formula for 3 points, not 1.

Kevin, next time if we aren't up by 3 at the break send the coach to the locker room

as a "professional" athlete - you have to bring it every game and prove it ... if Jaime truly feels that way he does need to be benched ..... does not matter if he is 19 or 33 .... you have to bring it and lead it ... and it is not getting done anymore ... sounds like this is going to be rough going on the last part of his career ..... he is black and red to the core .... this is going to be a long season .... I wonder if Soehn lasts?

Question for those of you who watched from home: did Emilio deserve his yellow? To me, it looked like a shoulder-to-shoulder thang. I wouldn't have called a foul, but I don't think he dove, either. It seemed like a square up bump and he got knocked down, but not a foul. How did it look on TV?

Disappointed in the draw, yeah. Scruggs summarizes it well:

but it was arguably more disappointing than that -- if you were to pick any one player on their team to go out with a red, leaving us a man up with that player off the pitch, it has to be Joseph. We could not have asked for a better situation; given that, our inability to get the second goal is a bummer.

Well, it was an improvement on our last few games, to be sure. But we still have a long way to go.

IMO opinion neither the card on Emilio or the red on Joseph were justified.
Tery Vaughn called yet another shit game and we just happened to be on the good side of the calls.

Erpen was complete shit IMO. Simms should start over Carroll, sadly he went off with an injury. All in all a consistency on crap play with a slightly better fighting attitude.

I yearn for the days of hard man Ryan Nelsen ... our defense is small and slow right now ... at least the 4 man backline helps some of it.

OK -- I didn't even see the play, so I'll take anyone's word on what it deserved -- but if it deserved a yellow, it was a red, since that was his second yellow, no?

EDIT: The box score at MLSnet says no previous yellow, but I really don't think I believe them -- I remember a previous yellow, and when the ref was reaching for his pocket me and everyone around me was saying "that's his second, that's his second".

that's what i thought too (second yellow). just for the hell of it i've started keeping score with those sheets that they hand out at the games and i already had joseph down for a yellow when they gave him the red.

We're #12! We're #12 ... WHOOOOO!!!!

Four in the back helped defensively, but exacerbated our lack of flank play. With Josh Gros slow since his concussion, Moreno invisible most of the game, Gomez still not contributing much offensively and Emilio looking lost, this all adds up to a rather fortunate tie at home. Small steps I guess.

We need to find at least one offensive player who can and will use one of the flanks regularly.

The team seemed to play in the first half with a lot of motivation. However, the execution was not there. This was highlighted in the second half. With NE a man down United had plenty of opportunities to capitalize, but could not. Sending the attack down the middle seemed futile.

The effort at least seemed to be there, so that is encouraging...but effort means nothing if you can't finish.

[QUOTE=DCU;11447029]New England had one legit scoring chance gifted them by yet another dreadful breakdown. Boswell gets pulled to the midfield line. The Revs attack into the space he vacated. I don't think he has a brain, seriously. I can't fathom how that type of breakdown happens AGAIN.
QUOTE]

What is up with Perkins merely blocking shots and laying-up easy rebounds for the opposing side!?! They guy needs to learn how to hold on to the ball rather than just throw himself in front of the shots. That is at least the third goal this season surrendered to the opposing side off a rebound of a shot initially blocked by Perkins.

Sorry for any redundancy if the point is buried elsewhere

That may be the most frustrating thing. Because all we NEED is ONE. Two would be great, but we'd have to make sacrifices elsewhere. I think finding ONE player to do this is reasonable, yet we haven't. Even more frustrating is that player might even be on our roster right now, yet for some reason we can't get him on the field with that frame of mind or instructions.

Just one person to hang out on the sideline and wait for the ball and stretch the defense would change things very much.

I added 5 minutes to my TiVO time when I set it and still ended up 5 minutes short. They had the NCAA volleyball semi-finals on live. It ran long and they subsequently started the game late.

So riddle me this. Are you so short of space on your DVR that you can only add 5 min. to the recording time? I routinely begin my DCU match recordings a minute early and end them 30 min. late. An hour, if extra time is a possibility.

The idea that United is somehow "boosted" to a draw makes me want to throw up.

Kpene was the lone bright spot for me, even after he took off his earring(s). But then, I remember how excited I was the first time I saw deRoux out there last year. :o

Whoa, such negativity. Should DCU have won? Maybe, but NE is a well-coached, very disciplined team and going a man down means they will bunker even more.

Positives:

The defense looked much more settled. Boswell and Erpen are both much more comfortable with 4 in the back. Namoff had a very good game. Gros is still adapting and needs to stay wide in the attack. Those who say Erpen sucked must have been watching another game. On the NE breakaway he pressured Twellman into taking a shot that Perkins could block, too bad no one bothered to track back and cover Dorman. Boswell was caught up no one hustled back to pick up the trailer who got the rebound. Happens in hockey, happens in soccer. Note also that NE got no corners. The defense had their attack sorted out very well except for one lapse.

Fred looked very good. I thought Moreno also looked good playing only 45. He adds cleverness to the attack that Addlery doesn't bring. Also, he was hustling for the long ball that resulted in the PK - he probably doesn't make that run if he already played a half. Payne and Soehn need to impress upon him that he is not a consistent 90 minute player anymore but still has value.

Simms looked good, but his passing started to deteriorate right before the half. Maybe his ankle acted up, because he started to look very ordinary just before he was subbed.

Negatives:

Terry Vaughn. What an a-hole. The red on Joseph was very harsh. I think the PK was legit, I though Riley gave Moreno a push. The yellow on Emilio was pure crap, if Emilio's going to ground was worth a yellow, what should Twellman have received for imitating a shot squirrel? He was diving so much he probably has swimmers' ear. Horribly and inconsistently called game.

Gomez - WTF? He looks slow. His one free kick went into the wall and he missed several shots that he would have made last year. Is he dinged? Since Fred is hurt, he'll play against Chivas, but he doesn't deserve the start on merit.

Based on last night, I'm optimistic about Sunday. I would like to see Casal Sunday to actually keep play outside for a change.
