So i was reading the match preview for the Arsenal vs Chelsea game and ran across this. Full article. (http://home.skysports.com/list.aspx?hlid=464754&CPID=8&clid=3&lid=&title=Blues+back+in+the+mix+-+Le+Tiss&channel=Football+Home&)
Arsenal still have that third place and one less Champions League qualifying round to aim for, so they will come forward, so we should be in for a fairly open game between two very good sides.
I had heard mention of this in an earlier thread but didnt think it was right but looks like UEFA might have amended the rules. Also tried finding any info myself but couldnt come up with anything confirming this. Everything else i read suggested no change to the current format. Well maybe we should be looking for Pool to win the whole thing so maybe we wont have to play in the 2nd and 3rd qualifying rounds.

That happened this season, remember? Had to play in the CL in early August, before the EPL season had even started. That was the qualifying round. If we leapfrog Liverpool to third, then we go straight into the group stage in September.

Not sure that's true...I think 3rd and 4th both go into the 3rd CL qualifying round.

The journo has it wrong. We go into the 3rd Qualifying whether we are 3rd or 4th because of the Premierships standings.

What am I saying, it's Matt Le Tissier - just shows the stupidity of footballers.
This link shows the UEFA regulations and if you scroll down to page 38 you will see that it is a list of whch country gets what number of places. You can see that the Premiership gets 4 places and that if you come 3rd or 4th you still start in the 3rd Qualifying round. These details are from 2006/2007 but they have not changed for next season and won't do whilst English teams do well.

Le Tissier is one of my favorite players, and I think he's brilliant, but that clearly only applies in the footballing sense.

No, Liverpool did play a qualifeier to this season. I remember it because Mark Gonzalez scored the winner (i think) and i remember thinkin at the time he was going to be really good. How wrong i was!!! Only the top 2 go straight in, us and Liverpool will just play in 3rd round qualifiers.

You are right. I forgot that they had to play qualifiers as well.

i remember the matches... they had issues (Liverpool) with Maccabi Hyphia at Anfield... and then merked them in the Ukraine, I think it was Ukraine (remember they had petitioned to not play in Israel because of security)...

Point of order...you don't just play a qualifier.
You play a special kind of qualifier called a tricky qualifier.
