View Full Version : When the season ends....

It's coming to an end again. Every year i'm filled with a huge void when the season is finally over. Fans put so much emotion into their club that it becomes awkward to (here in the U.S.) not have to/want to wake up at 7:40 and watch a match. I'll in a way dread the two months or so without the atmosphere, drama, and passion the football culture creates. So, I decided to create this thread for anyone to post what exactly they will miss most about Arsenal or the game in general during the break.

i like the quote from the Fever pitch movie about this topic, its something like
Sarah: When does it all end
Paul: May
Sarah: what happens then
Paul: Don't know, sit on a park bench and wait for the fixtures list
Sarah: well, what about this year
Paul: You're right, we might be in the Charity Shield
We all put all this time and energy into something we have no control over, so when there is a real void when the season ends. It doesn't matter if we won anything or not, we all count the days until the Austrian summer training, the friendly against Barnet, and the eventual first weekend of the season. It makes it extra hard that this is a odd year meaning there is no European Championships or World Cup to look forward to.
I guess i have to turn to the MLS, Cold Cup, Copa America to get my football fix.

Its hard to believe that this time last year I was so excited for the upcoming summer because we had the CL final then the world cup and I remember going crazy from the end of the World Cup to the middle of August with no soccer and stuck watching old games from the year before on FSC I dont know what I am going to do for those almost three months.

For me personally I have been having non stop football since July 2005. Last year we had the World Cup and then Austria and CL qualifications straight after. I am honestly all footballed out. I need a break hence going to Africa for 3 weeks and then chilling in June and July until the 17th when it all starts again. These weeks off are going to be the sweetest I have had in a long time. I won't be doing anything to do with football/tickets etc what so ever after the Pompey game. I can't wait.

It's going to be killer with no live football around. I'll be reading a lot of football books (Andy Gray's 4-4-2 and Ajax,Barcelona,Cruyff in particular) and watching a lot of classic matches. I have about 100 gigs of games to sift through, organize and eventually watch.

Going to watch MLS and concentrate on getting off my fat arse and PLAYING football, rather than just watching it. Downside is that my friends have started playing informally on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. - eff that. No way am I giving up sleeping on one of the two days a week I'm not at work.

Wellll.... if the weather's good, there'll be tennis and cycling and some surfing.
Or, if it's the normal British weather it'll be decorating the house, watching movies, sleeping and a cheap week in Spain to get drunk!

Well, I wont get out of Europe this year, but Rick's tempted me by Zimbabwe(;) ) for next year, given that my g/f wants to go hunting lions or something.
Oh, and snowboarding in Italy too :p

The US are playing in the Copa America this year, so that should be an awesome way to fill the void for us yanks. Anyone know about the TV coverage for it, though?

I'll watch the history of Arsenal DVD from time to time until the season starts up again. Watching the Chicago Fire and Euro 2008 qualifiers will do.
I'll miss the 6.30 a.m. and 9.00 a.m. kickoffs with Guiness for sure.

Well this is the time of year that I turn to America. Yes, thats right, an Englishman who watches MLS. I am planning to write a book on it and will spend a lot of time in the summer doing that. (On a side note for my book I will be coming over to the USA again and going to more games and interviewing people so I will let you all know about that and will see if any of you wouldn't mind being interviewed for it). I also have to go to the Emirates in June and July for some crap training that really is annyoing but needs to be done. I crashed my car outside the players entrance on Monday when we had some training, even I am impressed with that. Also there is the Barnet game but I think that Austria comes to early for me so will miss out on that but have to work for all four games during the Emriates cup, sweet! Also I will be moving house at the end of June. Moving back to St Albans from Canterbury.

I will be using MLS, Gold Cup, Copa America, and the World Youth Cup to hold me over until the pre-season starts again.
