I am itching already...

I have been watching a few of the replays on FSW, it's not the same.

After 3 years, I still haven't committed myself SPIRITUALLY and totally to a club. That would make following the Prem. much more exciting/nail-biting. My family is primarily of English descent, too bad I don't know from what city/county/region they immigrated from or where my remaining relatives OR even people with my same last name:

CATON or SMITH

I would even follow a prennial bottom feeder, if I felt a strong bond, especially if it was family related/the family club.

I am counting down the days until the season kicks off....

Alan Smith is Leeds.

I applaud your enthusiam. Why not research it. Smith is obviously a very common name and originates from the type of work a person did. Blacksmith, Goldsmith, Ironsmith etc.

Did a quick research and came up with this, from http://www.traceit.com . Looks pretty reliable. Another site concurred the origin aswell

From http://www.houseofnames.com/honsearchresults.asp?sId=&Surname=caton&searchType=history&text2.x=55&text2.y=15

-----------------------------------------

Caton

Origin: English

Spelling variations include: Caton, Catton, Cattan, Catten, Caten and others.

First found in Norfolk where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.

Some of the first settlers of this name or some of its variants were: Richard Caton who settled in Virginia in 1635; William Caton settled in Maryland in 1735; Nehemiah Cattan settled in Virginia in 1654 with her husband Sam.

------------------------------

So, you're a Fen. It's the Tractor Boys of Ipswich of the Canaries of Norwich. Make your mind up quickly because their rivalry is one of the strongest in England.

Tommy Caton played for Man City before moving to Arsenal in the mid 80s.He died tragically young,a few years ago (or,as I'm sure he would have liked..seasons ago!) Great footballer & cracking bloke!!

Kerpow...I already cheer for Ipswich Town, BUT they are not in the Prem.

Fusion City, What club did Tommy Caton play for the longest and where did he have his best years???

Finally....Alan Smith is good, BUT has a temper and potty mouth. My wife LOVES Strongbow Cider and said why don't you cheer for Leeds because of their sponsorship on their kits.

ARGHHH....one day, I will find MY club, oh yes, I will. Wish I knew where my ancestors were born.

Thanks again

what happened to you being an arsenal fan a couple months ago?

and then a manU fan?

or was that just a misinterpretation?

Looks like I'm Lancashire. Rovers, Clarets, Wanderers, Lilywhites, and Tangerines. I'm enjoying the FSW EPL summer replays as well.

"what happened to you being an arsenal fan a couple months ago? and then a manU fan?"

I guess he's just getting into the swing of what it means to be a modern day football "fan"...........

My suggestion would be to keep on supporting The Tractor Boys, and when it comes to the Premier League simply "root" for the underdog in each match.

Keep in mind Town may eventually get promoted to the Prem in which case you won't need to suffer any conflict of interest. Sorted :-) Next client please.

Oh, and if your wife likes cider you may also want to support Bristol City, so you can go over there and join in the merry chorus of "I am a cider drinker, I be drinking cider all day" sing-a-longs and chug-a-lugs. On the other hand, if her name is Irene, go with Bristol Rovers!

better yet, say you are making your support of united retroactive to 1990, the year sir alex saved his job with the fa cup victory. that way you can take credit for the years since 1990 when united have won "several" major trophies.

Ugh. Who cares.

The current uninteresting marathon otherwise known as the annual Man U march just ended; none too soon I might add. Next year looks like another completely uninteresting 10 months of wasted time where one of two teams will win.

..and the peasants rejoiced...yea.

Yeah, Manchester United or Leicester City.

So what? Your decision is already made, you're an Ipswich Town fan. ;) Just because they're not in the Premiership doesn't mean you have to go out an support another team.

I'm a Leicester fan (have been one since 1998-99), and it sure did suck when they were relegated in 2002. But I wasn't about to ditch my team just because they went down. I just followed the Foxes during their (brief, thankfully) spell in Division One and still enjoyed following the Premiership last season even though my team wasn't in it. After Leicester had a terrible relegation season and nearly folded because their debts were so high, I'll appreciate following them in the Premiership even more. And what if you pick a new team and they meet your first club... or if your new team gets relegated, too?

This is why a NON-English born fan must follow one of the top 5 clubs, due to the non-existing salary cap. The EPL is all about money, unfortunately. The clubs with the loot have a chance at the title every year and everyone else is just trying to keep from getting religated.

Frustrated fan from Chicago ie. Sports lovers HELL!!!

You support your team no matter if they have a title chance or not. You have always seemed to have trouble grasping this concept...why is that??

actually, thanks to the humdrum of constant titles(!) and this whole beckham saga, the EPL and manchester united are becoming LESS appealing to me every day, and i'm being attracted by cardiff, of all places......

Thanks for being so sassy. My trouble is finding a club that I have a connection/gut feeling about and running with it. I have enjoyed Man Utd, but feel like a poser after chatting with other fans from various clubs.

Macknife...what's in Cardiff???

Cardiff is a top firm of boys. Proper hard nuts. Can't go wrong. Tool yourself up for away days though. Many a score to be settled against you so you have to watch yer back. Top aggro down in London - Big off with the Millwall boys next season. Cant wait - 'Atchet 'Arry and Pyscho Mavis are fixing a date with 'em. We're gonna steam 'em. Get the faces ya know what I mean. Bring the top boys from the States with ya and we'll have a right good old meet.
