3:10 to Yuma ~ Delmer Daves

My only objection is the ending. Yes, I know about the production code argument and that's valid. They still should have managed it better.

Now you have your chance to watch a whole new ending! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381849/)

Great choice, Hang beat me to it.

thanks dude. horror as a genre is very under represented in this draft, aside from maybe videodrome (awesome pick there, slippery one i love me some cronenberg) and Suspiria is one of those films that I will never forget the first time I watched it. And freakin Goblin's soundtrack? Whats not to love?

I was thinking of taking Suspiria with my final selection but decided against it. Bravo for the pick.

I had the chance to watch Suspiria a few weeks ago, but it was on at the same time as the CL 1/4 finals... really hope I get the chance to catch up with it sometime in the not-too-distant future. I think I might be goingm for a horror with my last pick though, and I am sure it is going to be lambasted despite being easily the best in the genre this decade, imo. SirManc knows the one. ;)

Well there's the thing... I am juggling it with something else, so as long as that something else goes unpicked I might let it slip your way. :)

It's not my favorite Argento but it's his most unique film and deserves to be in this draft. It really is astonishing how horror as a genre is thrown aside in the film community but there are so many great horror films that deserve to be included in this draft.

"Film is the art of seeing"

Im Lauf der Zeit (aka Kings of the Road)
d. Wim Wenders
1976

http://www.douban.com/lpic/s1454045.jpg

Wenders' best. You've got the road trip, the existential angst, and the movies. Brilliant black & white cinematography from Robby Müller.

"Kings of the Road is a very special film, one which must be experienced rather than viscerally enjoyed. The aura surrounding Bruno and Robert, two men who are more temporary companions than friends, envelops the entire picture such that nothing ever needs to be explained. People are simply the way they are and act according to their nature, which means that the relationship between Robert and his father is both emotionally opaque and crystal-clear. Wenders utilises silence, the surrounding landscape and insignificant details to suggest depth to each character whilst never giving out explicit facts. The central performances are pretty good, appearing life-like and convincing, although it's difficult to decide when the dialogue is so sparse. The black & white cinematography is excellent, combining the space of wide-screen with a subtle, expertly applied palate of shades of grey."
-Damian Cannon.

1. Rebel Without A Cause
2. I Fidanzati
3. Le Cercle Rouge
4. Tampopo
5. The Harder They Come
6. Tokyo Olympiad
7. Street of Crocodiles
8. Umberto D.
9. The Thin Man
10. Im Lauf der Zeit

Wow I went way more foreign film than I would've thought. Still I covered a lot of earthly ground. I really wanted to get some Panahi or Majidi in there somehow too.

You are awesome. That is one of at least three Wenders "Masterpieces" and some may argue this one comes close to TOTAL MASTERPIECE status. Great draft and a helluva ending.

I don't remember much about 3:10 other than I really liked the ending. And the middle.

In terms of horror, I am probably one of the suspects. Don't really think much of it as a genre.

Like several other of my favorite films, I love that it goes for ages without dialog. It's a ********ing crime this isn't currently available on dvd. I'm steamed that Wenders Collection 2 is just Wenders Wenders Collection 1 + some random films. Anchor Bay have their heads up their ass.
