Transport
Special tickets will offer transport use during UEFA EURO 2008™
Hosts reveal transport plans
Thursday, 31 May 2007
Aided by a €5m investment from Euro 2008 SA, Austria and Switzerland have unveiled transport policies that will offer fans at UEFA EURO 2008™ use of public transport as part of their match ticket.
Combi-tickets
For the first time in a UEFA European Championship, the host countries are providing Combi-tickets that will act as a nationwide travel pass on public transport for a 36-hour period on the date of the match until noon the next day. In Austria the tickets will be valid on the entire ÖBB train network as well as local services in the host cities, while in Switzerland those with the special passes will enjoy access to ferries, trains and public transport.
Organisational challenge
"A well-functioning transport concept is, alongside stadiums, safety and security, ticketing and accommodation, one of the most important and difficult organisational challenges for UEFA EURO 2008™," said Austrian government co-ordinator Heinz Palme. "It is therefore very gratifying that both host countries agree that the theme of transport should be given particular attention. The fact the Combi-ticket has been developed further since the 2006 FIFA World Cup and now includes long-distance travel, is a real bonus for the fans."
Traffic regulation
Austria expect 1.5 million visitors from abroad next summer and speaking in Vienna at one of two specially organised press conferences, Austrian federal minister Werner Faymann said: "It is important to manage the enormous amount of traffic that will be generated by UEFA EURO 2008™ in the most environmentally-friendly way possible. The aim is that the majority of guests, officials, media representatives and volunteers will use public transport in June 2008."
System benefits
In Switzerland, officials hope that use of public transport during the three weeks of the competition will account for 80 per cent of local traffic and 60 per cent of long-distance traffic. Other benefits of the plans include a reduction in exhaust-fume emissions and noise pollution, while additional measures are as follows:
• More than 1,000 extra ÖBB trains in the Vienna area alone
• Special trains in all host cities after each match
• No daytime roadworks on transfer days on the motorways and expressways
• Extended operating hours for airports
• Special passes for visitors without match tickets, including a UEFA EURO 2008™ travel pass and half-price railcard
• Additional night services on local, regional and long-distance public transport
• Single traffic management system in both countries, in accordance with the 'two countries, one tournament' principle
This is an amazing idea! I just can't believe it! It changes my whole idea of chosing between going to AUT or SUI because of very high costs of transport in those countries. But since there won't be any costs of transport, why not travel for free after the game during the night to the next location? :)
Respect!!!

As far as I understood, every ticket would have that functionality.

If the system is the same as in Euro 2000, we only have to show the ticket to the football match. (Strange that they mention it's the first time ever, because in Holland I've travelled in the match day for free, both in trains and buses). But anyway, it's a nice measure of the Euro organisation :)
Take care, Miguel

Thanks,
one more question, do you think they will add more direct trains b/w Klagenfurt and Zurich?

Read with more attention the article I pasted and you'll find out the answer.
Miguel, would you be so kind and share your experiences while traveling with EURO 200 tickets around Belgium and Netherlands? Do you remember what rules were applied?

I was seeded in Holland, where I've spend most of my time. There we could travel by train inside Holland for free during the match day (not 36h period as they are now anouncing), just by showing the ticket to the football match. I have the impression that in Belgium that was not possible, because my brother was there and when he came to meet me in Holland, I think he had to pay the train inside Belgium, and then travalled for free in Holland.
Hope this information helped. If you have any other doubts feel free to ask.
Take care, Miguel

I am also monitoring the website , from my unerstanding , they are releasing the final wave of tickets a few days after the draw is complete. I am also of the understanding that tickets have been well and truly oversibscribed. So I cant be 100% sure this will infact happen. Maybe the people who applied initially unsuccessfully will get first crack at this final wave of tickets?? Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I'm almost sure that those that were initially unsuccessfully will NOT have any kind of priority at this final wave of tickets (in last Euro or WC competitions that didn't occur, and I'm almost sure I've read that would be the same in Euro 2008).
Take care, Miguel

Hi guys! What about SWAPPING our EURO 2008 TICKETS, so we can all see more matches? It's a win-win situation, so please PM me your swap proposals.
I WANT tickets to matches:
#07 (D3-D4) or #08 (D1-D2)
#23 (D1-D3) or #24 (D2-D4)
#29 (SF in Basel)
#31 (Final).
In return, I HAVE nice tickets to SWAP (for some matches more than one ticket):
#06 (C1-C2)
#19 (B2-B4)
#25 (QF 1A-2B)
#26 (QF 1B-2A)
#28 (QF 1D-2C)
#30 (SF Vienna) -> only to include in a swap deal for the Final, not any other match.
If indispensable to a good swap deal (secondary swap preferences), I maybe can get you ticket to:
#04 (B3-B4)
#11 (B2-B3)
#16 (D1-D4)
So if you have tickets to any match I want (07,08,23,24,29,31) and are interested in a swap (06,19,25,26,28,30 or 04,11,16), please contact me ASAP. Note: It's worthless to make money offers, just want to swap tickets, will NOT SELL THEM.
Hope to hear from you soon! Take care, Miguel

Just how many different applications did you make in order to get so many tickets?

I thought it was said that there won't be a final ticket phase, as all tickets had been sold.

Prior to the last sales phase they said if any tickets remained unsold then there would be a further sales phase.
I think everyone here knows that the tickets were sold out and then some!!
I reckon the only realistic hope of further sales is if a number of people don't come good with their payments and the tickets reserved for them are made available for sale again, can't see that amounting to many tickets though.
My main hope now is that because their sales system made it so easy for touts to get tickets the black market will be flooded with tickets and therefore the tout prices will come down.

Guys, I have a big family, so I send some applications and was a bit lucky... :) And I've also applied for 2 tickets per match because my girlfriend was supposed to come with me for the whole tournament, but now for professional matters she can only come one week :(
The good news (for you) is that because of that I now have that extra ticket for some matches I'm also going to (so if we swap I maybe going to meet some of you, because the tickets are side by side).
So if any of you is interested in a swap, please PM to let me know ASAP (I'm a serious fan, will never cheat any of you, for ex. we can exchange phone numbers and fwd each other the application by mail, to prove we are both ok and committed to the swap deal).
Take care, Miguel

Come on guys, we've discussed this before on this thread.. In the first sales phase they only sold one third of the available tickets, as you can see in the information posted in the official website (see http://www.uefa.com/competitions/euro/organisation/kind=33554432/newsid=511168.html)
Hope this information helps clearing your doubts. Take care, Miguel

Yes, they have only sold 1/3 of the tickets. 40% will be given to the competing teams. The rest go to sponsors etc.
They have only sold 1/3 of the tickets, but they only ever intended to put 1/3 of the tickets on general sale (this is made quite clear in the link posted above by migueldv), therefore the tickets are effectively sold out.
