Yes, well done to the Ladies, BUT I don't like this thread title at all.

I watched the game. It was really entertaining especially in the last 20 minutes when the game turned on its head with the total Arsenal domination going to pot and Umea hitting the post and bar and good saves from the keeper. The final whistle scenes made my hair stand on end.

I have been a fan of the ladies team for a few seasons now. Vic Akers has done a superb job in making the team so successful and the most dominant team in the league. He deserves a lot of respect since he has been the manager of the team and also founded the team 20 years ago this year, which means his ladies team are as old as me.

Props to the ladies! They've been in the final 8 for all but one tournament, I believe, and been in the Final Four a couple of times. Nice to see them finally bring it home.
Good on ya, lady Gunners! :)

At the risk of jinxing them this deserves notice:
The Arsenal ladies are in line for 4 trophies this season AND finishing the league UNBEATEN!!! They've three games to go in league play and face Charlton Athletic in the Women's FA Cup, but they've already won the league, the League Cup and now the UEFA Cup!
I don't care how you might view ladies football, that's impressive!

I don't know how many of you actually pay attention to women's football. I like it and I've gone to the two Women's World Cups hosted in the US and I used to go to Freedom games in DC on occasion.
With the collapse of the WUSA here in the States, I'm curious if Arsenal Ladies are indeed the best women's team in the world now.

It'll come down to whether there are any professional teams out there. The difference is huugggee!

I don't know about that. Many of the women who formerly played in the WUSA play in whatever that A-league equivalent is. For example, the Atlanta Silverbacks women's team has many of the players that formerly played for the Atlanta Beat. My hunch would be that some of those teams could give the Arsenal women a run for their money.

I do agree that at this level it's only a marginal difference, if one at all. Last I recall there are about 9 fully professional ladies teams in Europe. But this may not mean that the wages are top notch, facilities near perfect and that they practice much more than some semi-pro sides. Joy Fawcett (sp?) from the US women's teams said that with the amount of club opportunities and fields for recreational practicing, it's not impossible for a rec/semi-pro side to come close to replicating the amount of practice they'd otherwise get as a full pro. Especially for those wives who's employment is a luxury as opposed to a necessity.
I would love to see more leagues at least playing at the decent semi-pro level. The ladies deserve it and it can be great football. Either way, I'm sure all these ladies are better footballers than me! :) :D

So, I take it that given it's not a professional team per se, all the players have day jobs and Arsenal pays various travel expenses, etc.??
Well done, part timers!

Fulham did it a few years back, basically being bankrolled by Al-Fayed and got successive promotions simply by being professional. I think they ended up winning the top league before losing their professional status, and were promptly overtaken by Arsenal again.
IIRC some of the Arsenal ladies were actually against going down the professional route when asked.

A few of the ladies and Vic Ackers came out with the trophey at halftime during the Fulham match. They had a decent response.
