The third film (http://www.shrek.com/main.html) in the Shrek trilogy (or the fourth film in the Shrek tetralogy, if Shrek 3-D is counted) opens on Friday, May 18th, in the middle of one of the biggest single months for summer movies in recent memory. :)

i cant wait to see this. i love the shrek movies. i still remember how blown away i was by the first one -- thinking this is sooooo clever it is more an adult movie than a kids movie. im soo looking forward to see good ol' donkey and puss again... those two are just two much.

I love the Shrek films, but I just can't see them sustaining the same incredibly high standard for a third film with the same characters. I'm sure it'll still be great, but I have a feeling it'll have just lost some of that freshness.

To me, both Shrek movies were great on the first viewing and then immediately aged beyond recognition. The pop culture riffs and "oh, you didn't expect that!" turns on old fairy tales got old real fast for me.

Unless someone else is paying or I get really bored (both very possible) I'm going to pass on this one.

These are the only kids movies I like to watch, so yes I am looking forward to it. Murphy especially was great in the first two.

for me these are funny on every viewing. it is a different style of humor out there than almost every other movie. it is great for a laugh and from what i have seen of clips the freshness remains. i look forward to see this when it comes out.

Just finished my Shrek preparatory marathon on DVD (Shrek, Shrek 3D and Shrek 2), so I'm all ready for Shrek the Third either tomorrow or sometime this weekend. :D

From what I could tell, the old geezers like me seemed pretty excited, while the younger crowd had reactions from silence to "What's that?" to "Cool!".

It's slightly darker (but not that much darker) in tone, considering that much of the theme has to do with Prince Charming's plan of revenge (I probably can't say much more without ruining the plot), but it's still really funny.

My only complaint was that there's a slight bit less of Donkey than in the previous two films because of the need to fit in some new characters, but it's a minor complaint since Donkey is still pretty prominent.

I'd definitely recommend that you go see it, but have the aforementioned DVD marathon first. ;)

Yup, that was the reaction in the theater that I went to. Of course, I went with 4 guys and 3 girls. Us guys all looked at each other and said "let's go see it." The girls said something along the lines of "that looks like a stupid movie." Exactly as I expected.

Agreed - and I thought the dream sequense was kinda dark as well. Though I did think they tried to add too many new characters this time, it still is a good movie and I got lots of laughs. Also, there were a few points that were very obvious to us who watch movies, but not to the kids. I did like the reference to LOTR.

I, too, would have liked more Puss and Donkey, but still not bad. Gingy had a couple of good scenes which made up for this.
