I saw the trailer in the theatre last night. Can you say over the top? I feel they've taken it even further than the second installment, which was already pretty much OTT itself.

I'm still going to see it though, but I'm not expecting that much from it, seeing as the second one was a pretty big dissapointment.

Isn't it strange? The second one was crap, but I'm going to see the third one anyway. I almost feel obligated.

Rumor has it that this one is nearly three hours long! Count me out. The second one was one of the worst films I've seen in a long while.

Same here. It is odd, because I have given up on trilogies after a bad sequel before. (Never saw Matrix revolutions after the suck-fest that was Reloaded).

I guess the only reason I can think of is Depp. Even if the movie totally sucks, and he has no script to work with, you know there's still going to be two or three Depp moments that are worth seeing.

And yet, ironically, it easily beat the first movie in terms of Box Office results, despite it being greatly inferior to the original.

The second was horrendous. How do you spend that much on a movie and then have a kraken attack that has effects about as realistic as The Theif of Baghdad? You half expect Sabu to fly in and save the ship.

I totally agree! I also never saw the third Matrix movie, for the same reason. But this one also has Chow Yun Fat, and Geoffrey Rush is back. Yet my expectations are so low, it will have to work hard to disappoint me badly.

For me, neither of the two films were any good to begin with. They were both on the same level (I really don't see a big difference) and entertaining enough, the second a bit less than the first. But I've watched both with low expectations from the start, and I'll do the same with the third

I liked the first one, even though it's about an hour too long. Depp was wonderful and Verbinski allows the plot (yes, there actually was one) to unfold with totally uncomplicated, almost effortless action.

The less said about the second the better.

That's what I like to call the "Star Wars Prequel Trilogy strategy", and it works well with action films.

Meh... I'm not expecting it to be great, but following the general rule of trilogies it shouldn't be quite as crap as the middle film. Hopefully they keep the hokiness down to a managable level.

Its a freakin swashbuckling pirate adventure on the high seas! Screw a plot! Give me more pirates! woot! WOOT!

I didnt think the second film was any more or less chaotic and plotless than the first, but I had fun at both and expect more fun for the third.

Since we all agree this will both suck and blow at the same time let's all go see Die Hard 4 together!

I'm proud to say I've never seen a Die Hard sequel. I'd like to maintain that tradition for as long as possible.

I'd be all over a group viewing of Die Hard 4. Unfortunately, I have no friends, so I'll probably see it alone.

Actually, I'm looking forward to the return of John McClaine. The trailer looks like they wanted to put more action in this one than in the first three combined. But then, the Die Hard series was never about anything more than giving McClaine an excuse to kill as many baddies as possible within the space of two hours or so.

Matt Foster: You just killed a helicopter with a car!
John McClane: I was out of bullets.

It's mindless entertainment at its best. See also: Terminator 3.

same here.
it wasn't as bad as the second matrix, which totally kept me from seeing part three.
but this won't be an opening weekend movie.

In agreement with your's and everyone elses sentiments that the second movie was terrible. A big disappointment. Very much a little kids movie. Nothing in it for the adults. I am reminded about how embarrassed I felt watching the Return of the Jedi. I experienced a similar feeling watching the second Pirates of the Carribean.
