Palermo hit a penalty kick in the crossbar 5'

Córdoba (p) 10 scored'

Burgos saved a penalty kicked by Ricard 47'

Congo 79 scored'

s/o Zanetti 69'

Montaño 87 scored'

Palermo missed a penalty kick 76'

Calero saved a penalty kicked by Palermo 90'

So this Palmero missed 3 SPOT KICKS in one match AND if so, why the hell didnt someone stop this man after the first one.

Who was this guy supposed to be, the new Daniel PASSARELLA

I was at that game in Asuncion ,
before that game the rumor was that Palermo would be going to Italy on a $30Million contract. Needless to say the deal fell through.

If I remember correctly the 3rd penalty is the one that hit the crossbar
Also one of the Colombians that scored was 16 or something like that VERY young.

To the credit of Palermo IMO only the first penalty was an actual foul the other 2 where fabricated by him .

yeah but is it true that he missed 3 spot kicks, I mean Ronaldo scored all 3 against us in that 3-0 win but we let ONE MAN miss all 3 in ONE MATCH

EDIT I found this on the net
With the Argentine national team he played seven matches, and scored three goals. Rather less impressively, he holds the world record of three penalties missed in one single match, during the match between Argentina and Colombia for the Copa América 1999.

How comes Batistuta didnt take them or crespo or Ortega ?

hope it happens again this summa :)

Calero is still our GK, Montano was 16 then went to Parma thought he was the greatest thing since toilet paper burnt himself out and by 20 wasnt good enough for our sub 21 that finished 4th in the world in 2003. He now plays in Peru and is regaining his form and lost alot of his weight.

hope this copa america is good and that they sell tickets soon cause I am dyin to see Colo-Arg :)

good luck guys and Messi is my hero and want him to go to Copa America so I can get his autograph/Picture, also really like Tevez.

Hard to believe someone could be such a brute huh? I know horses that would kick the ball better. And to think that some people still want this guy back in the Seleccion!!!

for that Copa America, Palermo was the "Superstar" of the team (Crespo, and the other "europeans" were not at that copa america. I think the only star from europe was Simeone). He was also the designated penalty taker.

I can't remember perfectly, but the first one he took and missed. Fine. It happens.

-Then, he got a second chance, which is a pretty reasonable move. I mean, who would ever expect to miss two penalties. Then he missed.

-For the third, someone else was going to take it, but he insisted on doing it, I guess to redeem himself. but he missed, and earned his spot in the record books...

Palermo IS a great player still, if you have watched him play you would know that he can pull some of the best and most amazing moves and goals ever, or he could miss the easyiest thing on the world. Either you love him or hate it by that. He has more than 160 goals.

But yes... those 3 penaltys was one of the sadiest and crapiest days of my live, and i would never let him wear the national team shirt again.
Still love him in BOCA
