Pachuca's participation in this years Copa Sudamericana as defending champs opened a new slot to a MFL club.
Guadalajara got a slot by losing the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The remaining slot will be given the the team that acquired the most points throughout the regular season (Apertura 2006 and Clausura 2007).
Total points = Ape2006 + Clu2007 Club
62 = 26 + 36 Pachuca (defending Sudamericana champion)
59 = 29 + 30 America
58 = 30 + 28 Cruz Azul
57 = 26 + 31 Guadalajara (Concaaf Champions Cup runnerup)
49 = 27 + 22 Atlas
48 = 29 + 19 UNAM
46 = 27 + 19 Monterrey
43 = 27 + 16 Toluca
There is one more matchday in this season and as you can see, the race is real close.
Cruz Azul and America are fighting for that last slot. America has the edge with one point.
America plays Monarcas at Morelia
Cruz Azul plays Santos at Torreon

It is odd that Mediotiempo just posted an article about this on yesterday. I am starting to wonder how long this was known and if the FMF knew if Pachuca would be able to compete the following editions tournament as defending champs. I wouldnt put it past CONMEBOL to not follow those rules. Its not like we have ever been told of rules 24 hours before a game is played.
I am not trying to jump the gun here, but if it was known, the FMF should have scheduled both of those teams matches on the same date (and hour).

Apparently, a lot of Cruz Azul players did not even know what was at stake. I am ssuming that America's camp was the same.
