[quote=Tribune;13576809]Dude, just for my curiousity, have you seen Maradona playing ? Not a bunch of youtube clips, but the real thing, full games of his with Argentina and at club level with Argentinos, Boca, Barcelona and Napoli ?
Second, don't overrate Messi, please. All he did until now was to display some great moments of skill, in his own domestic league, playing for one of the two traditional powerhouses.
No one should be compared with an all-time great because of some OCCASIONAL great performances at league level.
Messi did not have until now even one league campaign dominated by him. Let him take CL and the World Cup by storm and then we ta
yes i have seen maradona recorded games and clips. i have also seen messi and messi has the advantage at his age. Anyways these are players that you just cant compare, they played in different time periods. They played different back then.

I noticed that even on the Man United boards they're conceding that he's probably more talented than CRonaldo (and Kaka).
Eh? Instead of making things up why don't you discuss why you think Messi is the more talented of that triumvirate. What does he do that is better than either Ronaldo or Messi? What about their overall games? You need to explain yourself.
At Barca where everyone always says that he underperformed he still scored 38 goals in 58 matches which again are incredible numbers for a midfielder.
Messi does not play in midfield. He is a forward and the system used does not demand any defensive responsibility from him.
put messi in maradonas place. I bet messi would do better, messi has more challenge these days. Better players.
Messi would have already retired. His frail body is struggling to cope in La Liga, let alone in a more physical league and with less referee protection.

I'm not making anything up. I was observing the bewilderment there over Messi coming in 2nd in WPOTY, and several people made the comments I referred to.
He's as dangerous as the other two and he's 2 and 5 years younger. IMO he's more consistent than Kaka and can leave players for dead better than CRonaldo. He's just beginning to start playing better through balls than I've seen from the others. Also it seems to me that CRonaldo and Kaka rely heavily on speed, and the former on his sturdiness, while Messi though insanely quick relies on skill to a greater degree.

Ronaldo has just as much football IQ as Messi, but I believe he has better physical tools to work with than Messi..
At this point its a tossup on who is better IMO.
There are definately aspects in which Ronaldo excels over Messi, for example his strength on the ball and his shooting, but in terms of footballing IQ I would give it to Messi. Ronaldo tends to have more lapses in judgement and Messi's vision is superior to Ronaldo's.

Yes I do because they wouldnt have been able to catch Messi. Just like modern players are left behind by messi now imagine players back then. They would have just seen messi number.
Messi is injury prone right NOW, imagine if he had to take just 1/4 of the fouls Maradona suffered in one game. He would be crippled. Look at how Italy decided to defend him in the 1990 WC semfinal as a perfect attention.
Do you watch basketball? If you do, you know the Shaq-a-hack theory they had in place where they basically just fouled the crap out of Shaquille O'Neal? that is what they did to Maradona, except much worse (because bball is a p*ssy sport compared to footie)
Also, you talk about how Messi was faster, Messi also plays in a time where the ball is more advanced, the fields are in much better conditions, the cleats are better and the treatments/medicine is better. So I can only imagine what Maradona could have done with the better equipment, better fields and better treatment
You also forgot to say that maradona used steroids. Messi doesnt need steroids and all that kicking and passing will come to Messi.
He didn't take steroids.
On a side note, Anyone know anything about the real Maradona Jr.? The last I heard was he left Napoli, and has anyone seen him play?
He was awful and the only reason he was allowed on the Napoli youth team was because of his last name.
He's already a different case than all the other "next Maradonas." Aimar, Saviola, Tevez, none of them have Messi's popularity, or anything close.
To be honest, what does popularity have to do with it? Tevez so far has accomplished much more in his career, though he has 2 more years than Messi

Tevez may have more trophies, wins, etc but not only is he older than messi, he is also inferior in almost every aspect of the game. They are of different quality, that is not to take away from Tevez as he is one of the most dangerous players at the moment, but no doubt Messi is a superior player.

One match against Gentile would have forced Messi into retirement.

Tevez is superior in several aspects of his game. The thing about Messi is that he is limited in terms of his overall game but he does the things he can do to a very high level. This season we have seen him expand on his game a bit but then suffer his usual injury problem. Whether or not he can add anything to his game remains to be seen.

The player in question is the best player on the planet and is playing like that. He's had several good seasons and his form of the last 18 months has been nothing short of exceptional at every level. He has more than proven himself and been a huge component of the success of his club and country. This season he leads both the Premiership and Champion's League in scoring. He is currently only 4 goals away from matching his impressive record from last season and has improved each and every season in his career to date. In short, your post is a joke and highlights your complete ignorance of Ronaldo.

Tevez is superior in his strength, finishing, free kicks, and they are about equal in speed, everything else goes to Messi and anyone that thinks differently has not watched enough of Messi recently. He is by no means limited in his overall game. He has been injury prone, but mentioning it is because of his small frame is too simplistic.
Ronaldo has been more productive largely because of Messi's injuries, but if you are judging the best player in the world based on footballing IQ, than it goes to Messi. LIke I said before, Ronaldo tends to have more lapses in judgement and Messi's vision is superior to Ronaldo's.

I'm neither ignorant nor stupid. That is the difference between me and those who are blind to his talent, influence and standing.

Aside from what you stated I would also put Tevez ahead on movement, positioning, hold up play and passing. Messi's injury problems no doubt have everything to do with his growth hormone deficiency, which is directly connected to his 'small frame'. It also means he will remain injury prone.

There is no definition of football IQ. Not only is it very subjective but there is no way of measuring it. Therefore it is a useless term to use. Regardless, it is also not the only factor that must be used when comparing players. Messi being injured a lot of irrelevant because it is something that will never change. It cannot be used as an excuse and it should not be used to take anything away from another player. It is far more relevant to discuss their respective roles for club and country, while also contrasting the style of play in their respective leagues. I also disagree with any claims that Messi has better vision than Ronaldo. Why don't you explain why you consider it to be the case and we can have a discussion, instead of making blanket statements.

Teso, you beat me to it.
So we now have Tevez being better in movement, positioning, holding upplay, passing, free kicks, finishing, strength, not being injury prone and i'll give you another one, heart

I love to watch Tevez, and I don't agree with any of those really. Maybe strength and injuries. That's it. Not sure about free kicks, because Ronaldinho is among the best in the world at that. Tevez's finishing for Man Utd has been laughable, score one and fluff three or four. But he's better than that. Holding up, Messi regularly holds off three defenders, he doesn't necessarily go straight through them. Passing, Messi has shown he has some Riquelme in him. Positioning and movement? He pops up in the right place and time all the time. You probably saw his third goal against Real Madrid last year? He also strips the ball from defenders and midfielders.
It's also Tevez that's in danger of losing his place in the Argentina team, not Messi.

I agree messi is way better than kaka and CRonaldo. I dont know how kaka won first it should of been messi.

Messi also hasn't taken them with Argentina (Tevez has when Riquelme's not there). He is better at free kicks than Messi

Yes he is and tough his form atm may be lower (finishing wise) he is overall a better finisher than Messi
IHolding up, Messi regularly holds off three defenders, he doesn't necessarily go straight through them.
it's debatable, I'll give you that, but I think Tevez' strength gives him a slight edge at this
Passing, Messi has shown he has some Riquelme in him.
This one is not debatable. Tevez is definitely the better passer
I It's also Tevez that's in danger of losing his place in the Argentina team, not Messi.
Neither are in danger. They are both starters.
As for me, I would take Tevez over Messi right now on the NT because he plays with so much heart that it makes up for some of the supposed 'inferiority' in his skills.
Also, Tevez has accomplished more so far in his career and it will be interesting to see which develops into the better player, because Tevez is making some noise at Man Utd, has made noise at every other club he has been at and isn't prone to injuries

hahahahah, Tevez is no where near Messi. I saw the bolivia game and I saw Tevez fall way more than messi without a faul. Messi passing is better than Tevez. There is no dang way that Tevez has more heart than messi. Messi positioning is also better than Tevez that is way he is always is free and scores. Messi is not even close to losing his place in Argentina.
