I know it's early and we still have Pompey but I think it's worthy of a little early discussion.
I really hope Rafa comes up with something better than he offered in the 1st leg.
I think this is our best bet.
----------------Reina-----------------
Finnan----Carra------Agger----Arbeloa
Pennant-----Alonso----Masch-----Riise
----------------Gerrard---------------
-------------Crouch------------------
Subs: Hyypia, Kuyt, Kewell(if available), Momo, Dudek.
Will Finnan be available?
Oh, i've put an [R] in the title so we can keep it to one thread.:D

We're down 1-0 in the last competition we have to play for. Against the only club that can make Manchester United seem like your best friend. Why Harry Kewell deserves a spot in the line-up is absolutely beyond me.

If thats the line up, I believe we can win. We've beaten Chelski 2-0 this season so it can be done although it'll be very difficult since Essien and Ballack will be back.
I might start Kuyt though since his workrate can work wonders and we need someone to run that defense ragged.

Gerrard will apparently be watching the match from home. As will one or two others-- Carragher and Riise spring to mind.

Been traveling the last couple days and finally got to get caught up on the match. I'm assuming Finan couldn't play because Riise and Zenden on the left couldn't possibly be our best option. Also was Crouch out as well?
I'd like to see Crouch partnered up top to pressure the center backs like last time. I probably start Bellamy to save Kujt for latter in the match.
I'd go with
Reina
Finnan Carra Agger Arebola
Gerrard Alsono Masc Riise
Bellamy Crouch
Get a couple early, and trade the strikers for Kuijt and Momo to lock it down in the second half.

Mate we need some help on the left.....could do a joe cole for us. I'd take a just back from injury kewell over a seasoned zenden anyday. Not saying it's our best option but hey we need to throw everything we got at 'em.

Bellamy... ...I don't think so. He was probably our worst player in the first leg. Did absolutely nothing but being offsides.
If the game goes to extra time maybe bring him to run behind Chelsea's tired legs, but otherwise he can sit on the bench.

I dont like mentioning weaknesses of other teams but carvalho has been ruled out of the game so with kuyt and crouch,we do have chances as terry will have to cover for both of them.(Therer will be a replacement for carvalho I hope its ferreira and not essien-who will forgot his travel documents to anfield or his purse or whatever so he doesnt make it!!!)

:o
'ahem. Sorry. Typed that after watching a pulsating rugby match which my team won, of course and got my lines absolutely crossed. Of course, I thought it was the Pompey match thread.

but will Carvalho really be out or is this just more Stupid Maureen Tricks?
hasn't Terry played in a few matches after being ruled out?
starting to worry about Arbeloa -- is he following Josemi's Liverpool career progression: encouraging start, discouraging follow-up?
if Finnan is available on Tuesday, do you consider Finnan/Carra/Agga/JAR?
I would, but, assume Rafa will have some surprises

Worried, are we?:D
No, he has been ruled out for the season.:(

Well, Carvalho has been Chelsea's best defender by a country mile but I'd not buy the injury story until the team sheet is announced on Tuesday. Not that we'd be monitoring other teams' injury bulletins ;)

Might be a good choice. As long as the wing backs drop back an do their job. A goal by Chelski would screw everything up.
Maybe something like this....
---------------------Reina----------------------
-------Carragher------Hyypia------Agger-------
Finnan-------------------------------------Riise
---------------Masch------Alonso--------------
-------------------Gerrard----------------------
-------------Crouch---------Kuyt---------------
I really hope Finnan is back! he's class.

Whatever we do i didnt like Gerrard at right mid.... he seemed to wander into the center too much leaving only the left with Zendin open for wing attack, and Ferreria shut him down most of the match.. if they keep with a 4-4-2 it might be the only place for Gerrard though when u have Mascherano Sissoko or Alonso in CM.
Also i dont think Crouchino should start, i think hed work better as a second half Sub and use his height to get over tired defenders....if only Luis Garcia was fit:(

if Finnan is fit, he should play. he gets forward well and i'd rather see four at the back than three, especially if Shevchenko and Drogba are in the lineup for Chelsea. what i saw in the Bolton match was that Joe Cole was all over the pitch and when Shevchenko was effective he was on the left side. i'm not sure the Reds can get the job done with three on the back line, unless Mascherano never ventures out of his own half.

Crouch has to start- we started looking much more dangerous when he came on in the first leg- and I want to get an early goal-
I dont want to leave it so we are really chasing the game, and leaving ourselves open for the counter.
Once it has got back to one-all we can take it as it comes.

Crouch should start purely because he's not scored when coming on as a sub (compared to something like 7 in 8 starts, or something)
