I know of a few leagues in the city for adult soccer, but I am curious if anyone has experience or recommendations that they would like to share. Positive or negative. Extra credit for Northern Brooklyn or Greenwich Village.

There are several leagues that play on the Pier 40 fields. Urban Soccer, Metrosoccer, and an Urban Soccer coed league that I play in (when not recovering from knee surgery.) It depends on how competitive you want to be. There are a few other leagues I've played in the past (Zogs and Hoboken) but they aren't as close to the village.
Can't help you in Brooklyn (although some Metrosoccer games are in Queens.)
All are similar, somewhat pricey for a short 8 - 10 game season. Very few Manhattan leagues with 11 per side, so if you are just looking to kick the ball around in a friendly, semi-competitive environment, those above are for you. If you want a more competitive environment with 11 per side, I think only Metrosoccer has that in my list.
Let me know which one you pick. If you play in Pier 40, I'll see you there sometime.

Hey that's pretty cool; I've never heard of that before. Are they at Sarah Roosevelt Park? Do you know whether it's competitive or more relaxed? Thanks.

I know that Urban Soccer plays there, I think the Wed/Thurs Intermediate. It's been 3 or 4 years since I've played in that league. (As I mentioned above, I play in the Urban Soccer coed leagues now. Love it with the ladies, what can I say.)

I've never played there or watched, but from what I understand from a colleague, its pretty relaxed. Not sure which park it is, but its off the Manhattan Bridge somewhere.

Chinatown, Grand Street & something. Make sure to pick up a $1 liter of cold water from the market on the east side of the field. Best water deal in Manhattan.

Depends on where you are and how competitive you want it.
Long Island Soccer Football League: www.lisfl.org
Suffolk Over-30 League: www.geocities.com/suffolkmenssoccer
I live in the Town of Huntington, which runs coed leagues. Check with the Dept. of Parks and Recreation. I'm not sure if other towns have comparable leagues.

You can also try New York Soccer collective as they play at Pier 40 and for 11 v 11 leagues you can add www.gothamsoccer.com and the Cosmopolitan Soccer league to the list. I think there is a league that plays in McCarren park in Brooklyn a well

We have a fledgling league in Westchester. 11v11, rather competitive. PM for details.
I play when not recovering from an indoor league inflicted shoulder dislocation. :(
