In honor of its 10-year anniversary celebration, Digicel will be organizing a mini competition between 4 national teams which will all be competing in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup™ this summer. The teams selected were; Copa de Naciones 2007 de UNCAF hosts, El Salvador, 2007 Caribbean Cup champions, Haiti, 4-time CONCACAF Gold Cup™ champions, Mexico, and 2006 FIFA World Cup™ participants, Trinidad & Tobago. Since the competition will kick off on either the 26th or 27th of May it should make most overseas-based players available.

Semifinals:
Haiti vs Mexico (1)
T&T vs El Salvador(2)

Third:
Loser (1) vs Loser (2)

Final:
Winner (1) vs winner (2)

The tournament will take place from May 27-29. For most of these squads, it will be their last matches before the Gold Cup kicks off.

Are any of those teams grouped together in the gold cup?

Trinidad and El Sal. (Only 3 GC groups, so 2 of them would have to be.)

This is kind of sudden don't you think? I guess it's a good thing too. ES and T&T can measure eachother up, and Haiti can measure themselves up against one of the CONCACAF giants. I hope all the teams have a chance to bring their best players.

I doubt this so called mini tournament is going to happen. If anything the Warriors are already grouped with El Salvador at the GC..why would they play El Salvador mere weeks away from the GC only to see them again.

Who is hosting this tournament ?

I'm pretty sure its going to be in Trini on the new synthetic surface at the Center of Excellence (Yea Morado we got a new pitch to train for saprissa stadium). Sill wouldn't hold my breath for this tournament actually taking place, or for anything associated with the TTFF. Hope it comes through though even if the TTFF f's up the team selection.

That's interesting that FIFA has it on their website. I still haven't read up on anything about this tourney on any Salvadoran website that I normally visit. I hope to hear something soon though.

Yes it is weird. www.elsalvador.com (http://www.elsalvador.com) www.laprensagrafica.com (http://www.laprensagrafica.com) etc hasn't mention anything. *fingers crossed* hopefully it's not a hoax.

This tournament ain't happenin people. I'll say it again El Salvador and the Soca Warriors are in the same group. No way the "Reds" play the Central Americans mere weeks before the GC kicks off.;)

If you remember, T&T had already scheduled a friendly against El Salvador recently, but it was cancelled, probably because they knew they would be playing each other in the Gold Cup. The one ray of hope for the tournament actually taking place is that Digicel are involved - and they seem to be the best organisers of football in the Caribbean - they already organised a series of Digicel friendly matches as well as the Caribbean Cup.

yeah they're calling it the "Digicel Shield"

I wonder whose idea was it to setup a rematch between Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago as 1 of the semifinals:rolleyes:
