I've spent the past fifteen minutes trying to think of something more pathetic than excitement over a big-screen adaptation of a video game.

And I'm stumped. Therefore, there is nothing more pathetic than excitement over a big-screen adaptation of a video game.

Actually I thought the original thread starter was infering that video games being made into movies was a new trend. Which had me trying to think of other video games that were made into movies. I came up with 4:

Super Mario Bros.
Doom
Resident Evil
Wing Commander

But maybe the poster is excited to see Halo and WoW made into a movie.

There IS something more pathetic: Whining about the quality of said movies after being horribly disappointed in them.

You've gotta give Mario Bros. some credit for at least having the balls to cast Mojo Nixon as Toad.

As to the topic of the thread, Halo is in the hands of Peter Jackson's production company.

I haven't heard anything about a WoW movie.

I don't care about Halo, but I have to admit, a Wow film sounds kinda awesome as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Which came first, Tron the game or Tron the movie?

:D

(actually I do know the answer)

FWIW, I can't think of a single movie based on a video game that did not suck.

Now that you mention it, you're right.

Could it be that a good script for a movie doesn't translate to a good script for a game, and vice versa?

:)

But Discs of Tron was pretty cool in the arcades back in the day. Waaaay back in the day.

Mortal Kombat. The first one. I hated the game, but the film's a kung fu b-movie, it succeeds at being a kung fu b-movie, and it doesn't try to be anything more than that. It's no Enter the Dragon, or even My Lucky Stars, but it's a decent night's entertainment.

Never saw it, but I do have the George Clinton soundtrack. Or was the soundtrack from the game? Not sure

According to wikipedia, Clinton contributed a couple of songs to the movie's soundtrack.

From my favorite show the Simpsons when homer gets stuck in the third dimension:

Homer: Uh... it's like... did anyone see the movie 'Tron'?
Hibbert: No.
Lisa: No.
Marge: No.
Wiggum: No.
Bart: No.
Patty: No.
Wiggum: No.
Ned: No.
Selma: No.
Frink: No.
Lovejoy: No.
Wiggum: Yes. I mean... um, I mean, no. No, heh.
