Still makes me nervous on high crosses, especially if he 'fumbles' (For my US followers!) one early in the match and loses confidence.

But, having said that, he has improved of late and is catching the ball a lot more. Let's see how he does in a pressure situation.

I always feel bad about Pepe and how harsh people are on the guy. I mean people tend to forget the saves he makes in matches where he will spend 70 minutes doing nothing (like the Wigan match on the weekend). It is great achievment for Pepe and I think he will be at the club for a long period of time being a key part in our solid defence.

He does benefit from having a fantastic defense in front of him, but take nothing away from the guy, beating the current record is extremely impressive. Especially considering some of the Keepers and defenses we've had in the past.

I hope I didn't sound too harsh, I really like the guy and his reflex saves. It really is hard being a goalie on a top team. some matches he doesn't even handle the ball for 80 minutes and then suddenly he's faced with a 1v1 situation or a quick header from the only corner he's seen all day. He has to have 95 minutes of concentration.

He still scares me with his David James imitations though.. :)

I think our defense is the main reason for so many clean sheets but Pepe does deserve credit, he makes some terrific saves but he'll always make me nervous.

I hope Rafa doesn't give up on Carson because he is an immense talent that could be our future #1.

I think he stil has much to learn-- he is only 23/24. Like usscouse says, he makes me rather nervous at high crosses. But what a record considering, as Crown Paints points out, the defenders and me goalkeepers we have had in the past. He'll only get better.

I think Pepe is a solid keeper. Sure he has had his moments when he has been bad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KF9itBk3NVI), but he has had good (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_mYVaEZSJM) moments as well.

He will get even better, remember this is only his second year in the Premiership. If he improves his positioning and technique on crosses in general he will be VERY hard to beat.

Since we're in celebratory mode I figured we'd bunp this thread and once again give props to the PK MASTER!!!!!! No wonder Rafa was chillin' on his butt. He just wanted to see the Pepe show, he wasn't worried!

For all his occassional mishaps, I'd take Pepe over anyone in the world. The man is a PK stopping genius!

Does anyone know his record in PKs up to the minute?

I remember it was some outrageous save percentage, after the FA Cup Final last year.

What was it? 7 out of 9 in Villareal's last season?

And 5 out of 7 for Liverpool in shootouts so far.

Didn't he conceed one to Chelsea during the season last year? I think that was the only one he faced before the FA Cup final last year though. So 7 of 9 2 years ago, 5 of 8 last year, not bad. I do think it's astonishing to see that on most goals (The shearingham ? PK last year the exception) he's gone in the same direction as the shooter. Amazing reads on direction. Wonder how he is at cards?

If you've ever doubted Reina would come out of his slump this season.

From the man's mouth:
"To be a great goalkeeper, and that is what I am trying to be, you must be ********ing strong - excuse me for using that word. Your mistakes are magnified and, at a club like Liverpool, even more so. Every mistake is seen as the end of the world and you have to be very strong mentally to ignore that."
