As I think he should be now Riquleme is gone, as Aimar is also faster and gets stuck in more.
Also Aimar is only 26 and I hope he is allowed to do so unless there is someone else as I dont see Arg matches being played in England
I heard Veron might be back, god I hope not

I think pretty much everone agrees that Aimar is the right person for the role.. Other than that, I would love to see D'Alessandro get another shot, but I know some people here don't agree with my opinion.
Hmm.. Who else? Insua isn't NT material, Montenegro is a good player (but good enough to play a WC for Argentina?).. It would be interesting to see how Messi would do in that position.

No more enganches i think it is an end of an era already. Now it all depends how the game is being played then you know make sub and do the enganch thing. If you notice in argentina that it appears to be fading. Now if you see the formation before the game the diagram thing...you can notice that it is not really happening anymore....I don't know it could come back...but I doubt it.

Enganche is basically the playmaker. The number 10.

Hopefully not, Riquelme lacks a spine.

Claro que volvio a la Argentina antes de darse cuenta que ama el albiceleste, el calor le calento el pecho :D
But seriously: Aimar for enganche would be fantastic, and as long as Basile is the DT (As much as I disagree with his appointment), Argentina WILL play with enganche. Don't doubt it.

I like Aimar, but I would like to see how Messi does as an enganche first, he could be phenomenal. Playing Messi at that role would allow us to keep Saviola and Crespo up front as well.

I think Messi is not quite ready for enganche role yet. Aimar is a good player but is injury prone. D'Allesandro must get a call though. I have watched some Zaragoza games this season and i think D'Allesandro has been better than Aimar. But if i have to choose then i will play without a enganche. With this fomation:
----------Barbosa/ustari/Pato/Carrizo?------
Zabaleta/Zanetti-----Gonzalo/Ayala-----Milito------Heinze
------------Mascherano------
Maxi---------Messi----Aimar/D'Allesandro
----------Tevez------
---------Crespo/Milito-------

I would also prefer to just have messi on the left side though I would try him out as enganche.
I think Tevez could be possibly but I think he isn't a pure enganche, more of a deep lying forward.
And thank god Basile will play with an enganche.
If Gago and Masche can play together and provide enough defense/possession to cover for lack of other players, then I wouldn't mind a 4-3-3 with Messi on the left, Tevez on the right and Crespo (or another '9' that can replace him if he doesnb't make it to 2010) in the middle

Messi doesn't work well playing through the middle. Chelsea games this year and the Madrid game last year are examples of this. Rijkaard tried that in those games bringing Giuly on the right and pushing Messi throuigh the middle and it wasn't the same.
Messi should play where he plays at Barca to get his maximum potential. No need to be switching him around experimenting.
I posted this formation in the Copa America thread. If the team will be mostly European based.
----------------Carrizo
---Burdisso-----Ayala----Heinze
---------Mascherano-Gago
Messi--------------------------Zanetti
-----------------Veron
---------Tevez---------Milito
Veron could be easily switched with Aimar. Though I'd rather see D'Alessandro there.
If Maxi get's healthy you could also put him where Zanetti is and put Zanetti in for Burdisso like this:
----------------Pato
---Zanetti-----Ayala----Heinze
---------Mascherano-Gago
Messi--------------------------Maxi
----------------Aimar
--------Tevez---------Milito
All Euro and more attacking.

----------------Carrizo---------------
Coloccini---G. Milito---Garay?---Heinze
---------------Mascherno------------
Belluschi---------Gago----------Messi
--------Tevez--------Saviola--------
I can't see Crespo, Sorin, Samuel or Pato making it to WC 2010. With all that considered, this would be my line up.
EDIT: And with that in mind, I put Pato in anyway >_>

I like this. i would probably swap belluschi for maxi or d'allesandro. and have aguero come on for saviola at some point.

I would put Lucho above Belluschi or Gago right now, but my first choice for the RM would be Maxi or Aimar. I dont' see Samuel or Sorin making it to 2010 but it all depends on their level of play at the time. I doubt Ayala, would be there though, and that sucks.
