I'm heading to Cairo on Wednesday for a printing convention. I'm looking for ways to spend my time when I'm not walking convention floors and touring plants. The worst thing about the trip is now I have to miss the 2nd and 3rd FCD home games.:(

You have to get a picture in hoops or some sort of FCD apparel at a pyramid. http://goafrica.about.com/od/egypttopattractions/a/cairoguide_3.htm

My Dad got a severe case of Montezuma's revenge during a business trip to Egypt.

Oh, I'm ready for that. I went and bought a little supply of 48 anti-diarrheal pills. The one thing that will be foreign to me is the % of drinkers. I hear that about 95% of Egyptians don't drink. They smoke like chimneys but the don't really drink.

well, "they" said that "they" had really good pricing on orange jump suits. So I've got that going for me... which is nice.

they may not be using the old paper but that is their selling card... lowered costs. They're attemting to unseat the Chinese as the low budget printers to the world. Now all I need is a client that wants to print 100,000 books or magazines and the trip may be of use.

Take a Nile river cruise at night, eat atop the Hyatt, which has a restaurant 40 stories up overlooking the Nile. Pay extra at the museum to see the mummies, probably the coolest thing I have ever seen (if they start talking you will probably be fine with it ;). There's a great cafe on al-Mohandiseen called "Location". Go there for coffee, tea, hookah, and good soccer. I watched the World Cup there this summer and had a blast. You should really enjoy Cairo it is a great city. Divide whatever the taxi driver says by 3 and pay him that.

Best advice I have seen yet. I hear they will rip you off. Watch out for the camel rides too.
Dress like you don't have a pot to piss in and they might not give you a hard time.

Good point, when you go to the Pyramids the camel owners will invite you take a picture on their camels and even ride them, without asking for payment. When you get off they will demand inordinate amounts of money. The best advice I could give regarding this case and taxis in general is to discuss the cost beforehand, then give them that amount and be done with it. If you wait until after you will waste an hour of your day.

Good advice. I've heard a little about the way taxis work. We are being given escorted transports so I hope travel is somewhat simple. Not the types of escorts you find in Vegas either...
