So Wiltord is replacing him for the Auxerre match?

What does it say about OL's top striker that he only has 2 posts in his player thread. not too popular is he?

Its a shame. Maybe the expectations were greater than one should have placed on him. He's a talented player and perhaps hasn't shown his real potential yet but his biggest problem is that he gets himself into trouble too much. Right now he's his own worst enemy.

Agreed. Watching the England-Brazil friendly today, I definitely think Fred would not be out of his place in the Brazil squad, considering neither Vagner Love nor Afonso Alves, the forwards alongside Robinho, looked very formidable. Of course, it should be noted that Brazil were not playing with necessarily their entire "A" squad. Hopefully for OL and for himself, he'll get his act back together to be the player who scored 40 goals in 43 games in his last season back in Brazil. :)

The idiot broke his metatarsal today. He is expected to be out at least two months.

Great. We can't sell him, and he's using up a non-EU spot. And we probably can't count on him until next October.

He was gonna miss the first three games of CL anyway, so this is no more than beating a dead horse.

I'm counting on Baros and Benzema.

There are still several league matches to play, and he has been Lyon's top scorer in the past two years. Since we are now shifting to a 4-4-2, this summer was the time for all the players to get acclimated to a different formation and to different teammates. And, given that Benzema doesn't have the endurance yet to play week in and week out, and to conserve match freshness for the CL, it would have been nice to have three players to share attacking duties.

Instead, Perrin will have to put Keita or Govou, or perhaps Ben Arfa, into the makeshift striker role, since Nino will be gone.

Worse, I'm wondering how long it will take for Fred to return to form. I don't think Fred completely recovered from his first injury in October, as his playing as not been up to the same standards it was last summer and early fall.

We can't go shopping everytime somebody gets hurt. We'll just have to adjust to the situation.

That's the depressing part. We're always adjusting. This time we're adjusting before the season even started. Lyon are already going to be missing three starters (Malouda, Abidal, and Tiago). Not having Fred for two months just adds to Lyon's constant "rebuilding."

Can't the club get lucky just once? :(

I have faith that Benzema will be able to handle the early going no problem.

Once Fred gets well, OL will already have an early lead on the L1 pack, and if not then we'll just have to play catch up.

Would make for a more interesting season anyway, wouldn't you agree? :D

Fred no longer wants to stay (http://globoesporte.globo.com/ESP/Noticia/0,,MUL87721-4842,00.html) at Lyon because he feels that Aulas no longer values or respects him.

What a joke.
