food is the easy part... lots of protiens and keep carbs in moderation (same as for most sports/exercise
As for building stamina, I always found the best way was simulation.
Use a football field. and practice multiple shuttle runs.
Goal Line to 18 yd box.
Goal line to half way line.
18yd box to 18yd box.
Goal line to goal line.
From there you can add to that with cones and balls to mix it up. Shoot me a private message if you want more help.

building stamina is the same way you build muscle. Gradually increase your run output. One week run a certain amount, the next week addon and addon and addon, it's quite easy really, but takes time.

make sure you get enough protein and enough calories if you are doing heavy running. Too much running can starting burning your muscles for energy and that would be counter productive.

i've found that high intensity interval running works really well. You start at a moderate pace for a few minutes then every few minutes you start running faster. After you have ran at your top speed you start going slower minute by minute and start the process over.
This is a lot easier to do on a treadmill, because u can adjust speeds and u can use incline to help build some muscle.

Food: bananas, cantalopes, I need potasium to relax my muscles, and prevent cramps.
Keep your mind focus, the more you are into the game the less tired you will feel.
Play smarter, work for a reason and a reward, instead of just unconciously moving all over the place.
Research an Amino Acid called Glutamine.
And ofcourse play regularly will help.
These are a few things that I didn't see mentioned.

Glutamine will help muscle endurance and recovery. A lot of body builders use it. It won't do much in terms of cardio endurance.
I find that i can last longer in games when i warm up well and keep warm during the game. If you are warm then all your bodies energy can be used for playing the game rather then warming up your body. I try to wear long sleeves and i drink moderately warm water during games to keep my temperature at a good level.
