Will somebody please tell washed-up rockers to stop trying to salvage their careers writing Broadway musicals.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can--and he can sing and dance, too! The friendly neighborhood web-slinger is teaming up with Bono, The Edge and "Lion King" stage director Julie Taymor for "Spider-Man: The Musical," it was announced yesterday. No date has been set for the fantastically eclectic four's Broadway debut, but auditions are under way for the first reading, which will take place in July.

"We are very excited," Marvel Studios Chairman David Maisel said. "The all-star creative team--led by Julie Taymor, Bono and The Edge--is second to none, and we are certain this project will delight fans of Spider-Man and new audiences alike." He said Taymor and the U2 singer and guitarist all have "great passion" for the crimefighter.

Producers are searching for an actor in his late teens or early 20s with "a great pop/rock voice" to play the lead role of Peter Parker, and an actress in the same age range to play love interest Mary Jane Watson.

And here I thought I already had enough reasons to hate U2.

as silly as the idea is, calling U2 'washed up rockers' is sillier than anything in the article.

They are not as good as they were. And their new records have been dare I say bland.

This coming from a recovering U2 addict. :o

I'm still a U2 addict, and I don't know if I could stomach a U2-scored Broadway musical.

It will last about as long as that Rosie O'Donnell/Boy George thing a few years ago.

I'm not even a U2 fan but you're spot on.

Well that relationship was doomed from the start. :D
