Now apparently Romario wants teams to switch games so he can score his 1000th goal at the Maracana....this whole narcissistic pursuit of this "record" is starting to get to me....i know the guy's a legend and all but jeez.....

They should let him score straight away so he can retire and leave us in peace
Romario was a legend, specially along with Bebeto, but I also think this whole 1000 goals saga is tarnishing his reputation.

I'm glad u put this out there, I'm tired of seeing an article on this on soccernet every single week, especially since thats a major source of news on football for me.
I could care less about that record personally.

It's was in the Miami Herald too several times.
Romario is no where near 1000 goals in his professional career.
He's very close, but he wants to pass Pele, who hit 1,281, and he's a long way from that.

If Pele can use bogus games to boost his numbers, so can Romario.

What is the reason for your hatred of Pele?
Did he once play for Chelsea or something?
Did you ever work out the clubs that played in the Sao Paulo league with Santos?

I don't like the double standard that allows Pele to claim an inflated goal figure but no other player. Either refer to his real goal total or accept that any other player can boost their figures in a similar manner, as Romario is currently doing.

The issue with Romario is his desperation.
The fact that a once great player is reduced to a scramble to score a couple of meaningless goals.
He even counts goals scored as a child in order to boost his tally to try and reach the magical mark.

Or you could simply look at a once great player who is still managing to score goals at the highest level in Brazil.

What I'm tired of is that Romario can play for lots of teams in a year, but others can't.

I've actually seen Romario play recently, a few years ago. He's living off his name. He should have taken a cue from Pele and retired in his prime, if he really wanted to have a legacy.
