He really showed his versatility when he had to fill-in at forward. Since he will be 27 soon, I'm afraid that this summer might be the best time to cash-in on him.

I'm sure Lyon would love to keep Malouda, but he doesn't seem to want to stay, and Lyon won't force it. So they might as well turn a profit.
And Malouda's salary demands to extend his contract is probably more than Lyon wants to pay. It would be suicide to use part of the transfer budget to pay the salaries.

The problem with paying Malouda a ton in salary means that other key players on the squad will all want large increases to where a couple million euros a year can quickly turn into a 20 mill euro or so increase a year in salaries.
