Apparently fans with tickets for their section(s) will now get a pat down before entering it:

On the surface, it seems a case of the club cracking down on a group of supporters who've long stretched and/or broken stadium rules (flares, smoke bombs, etc.), which perhaps is something we should keep in mind with respect to The Fort. I'm not saying we need to dial things down (I know some of you think of me as a wet blanket), but it would serve everyones' interests to understand and respect that which allows The Fort to enjoy the accommodations it does...

... but I still want flags on big flag poles allowed :-).

Yeah, something similar went down in Colorado last year and they threatened to shut down the standing section. The resulting actions compromised that group's independence from the team.

Bringing in and igniting a flare in The Fort would probably get that person banned. Repeated incidents would affect our right to stand.

BTW, the letter in that thread impressively used the word "scofflaws".

I'm willing to bet that just one incident like this would seriously jeopardize things here in New England, and that's what I want to avoid. Too much work by both individuals and groups like the Riders has been done to cultivate a good, working, respectful relationship with the front office, and I'd hate to see that pissed a way by a few idiots who don't appreciate this.

We can respect the rules, see how much they bend, but shouldn't raise a big middle finger to both them and the organization.

whats to stop some dope from buying a GA ticket and setting off a smuggled smoke bomb/flare?

it would be unfair for the supporters groups to have to pay the price for more strict security, but i could see it happening.

damn scofflaws!

Well security for one, but we're the second way to stop someone. If you see who did it, let security know. If that person manages to hide, we will get blamed for it. If the pesron is caught, and he's really not one of ours, we can make that very clear.

Sure, if Monty lit off a smoke bomb and we started singing a jaunty song we'd lose our privileges.

It'd all depend on who did it. It's pretty hard to hide with a flare going off in your hands.

It's a good thing they kicked the ninjas out of Gillette.

Here's an interesting look at this- Section 8 is built on the models set forth by other clubs throughout the world where special attention is paid to the supporters sections by the club. Think of this as affirmation that Section 8 has joined the ranks of the Italian Ultras, Liverpool's Kop, and the like...

That's stupid, I know, but I always am trying to fine the silver lining in things...

Why am I not surprised a Chicago fan is proud to be shoulder to shoulder with the nasty side of the sport?

Sadly, Doofus-San had to watch the rest of the game from the parking lot. Sensei was much displeased.

Well it looks like it really doesn't matter anyways since the Mayor is cancelling the searches as its against the Village laws....

Standing by for the "wrongfully imprisoned outrage" threads the next time someone lights off a flare or smoke bomb at Bridgeview.

Apparently DC's going (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=11363681#post11363681) to have problems with smoke bombs as well.

I find it funny that giants stad is the only one to pat down EVERYONE going into the stadium. I go to DC - Foxboro - columbus for qualifiers, and when I put out my arms to get searched, I get the weirdest looks from security.

Meadowlands security has taken the "post 9/11" term to mean they can play grabass with me on a weekly basis.

Just adding to the discussion.

I'm the zen master of walking through metal detectors undetected. It's the best skill I obtained during my decade of naval service and borders on superpower status.

in light of this gun incident in columbus, expect a league wide crackdown on fans and harsher security

This is 100% speculative, but I'm under the assumption this happened outside the gate and that dope went to his car to get his courage steel.

If that happened inside the gate, I'd expect this story to be frontpage news and security for all sports to be upped.

enough MLS and press types peak in here occassionally, they will know.

When I spoke with craig a few months ago, he said he even comes on here once in a blue moon just to peak around.
