Heard this on the BBC World News bulletin:

April 19 (Bloomberg) -- David Beckham already has brought Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy an additional $13.3 million in revenue, more than enough to cover his salary for two years.
[...]
``We've already made our money back,'' said Tim Leiweke, 49, chief executive officer of Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Los Angeles-based company that owns the Galaxy. ``We were never worried about our financial commitment.''

Season Tickets
Leiweke said Beckham's celebrity has sold an additional 7,000 season tickets. The average price is $700, said Galaxy Assistant General Manager Tom Payne.
That translates into $4.9 million in new revenue. The team doesn't release total season-ticket sales figures.

Sponsors
Herbalife Ltd., a seller of nutritional and weight-loss supplements, signed a five-year, $20 million agreement earlier this month to put its name on the front of the Galaxy's jerseys.
The agreement should help AEG, which is controlled by billionaire entrepreneur Philip Anschutz, triple its sponsorship sales from a year ago to about $10 million, Payne said. New sponsors include Delta Airlines Inc. and AutoTrader.com Inc.

This is not surprising at all...

just wait until the jerseys and new colors go on sale... cha-ching!!!
this does go to show that we can afford to have high calibre players here.
perhaps not a whole team of them, yet, but its a start.

I passed third grade math with a Sat +. Oh, it's true.
As the resident genius here, I have to ask if the Galaxy have an attendance figure over 20k, doesn't that translate into money not realized due to the lower price of season tickets versus face value?
I realize the value of having the money sooner than later and the increase in their prices from last year, but it seems a little fishy to count all of that money as new profit.

Good points.
Dude, that's crazy knowing they've made that much, and Beckham won't be playing in HDC for 3 months. They haven't released the Beckham jersey yet, and I'm sure that's going to skyrocket the 13.3 Million figure. The media and people at HDC are minimal to how many will be there in July.
They could be on the way to a $20-30 Million dollar surplus by the end of this season:) And NEXT season will be the first one where Beckham actually plays the whole one.

Yeah, although I think average tickets sold is less than 20K (don't remember off hand) so technically it would be possible to increase tickets sold by 7,000 (if comps fell). However, given that we aren't selling out now, the displaced attendance of the latter half of the season will not be made up in the first half of the season.
I'm not sure about these numbers in any case because their coming from two different people. Are the 7,000 season tickets season-ticket-equivalents or just 7,000 packages?

add in the fact that the stadium will in all likelyhood sell out when beckham arrives--cant be bothered to do the math but that would be about an extra 25% revenue for those 7000 additional season seats they sold. (taking into account that im paying $28 per game for $40 seats)
ok so i will do some rough math: if the 7000 seats bring in 4.9 million in revenue +25% is an extra 1.25 million.
well, i guess they make that up with the increased prices + 7000 season tickets profit for the 1st half of the season, where there are empty seats aplenty.

Why people pay top dollar for watered down suds and low grade dog food is beyond me. Eat and drink before the game and have a beer or two to keep your buzz going, $15 bucks, badda boom, badda bing...

886,666 cars would only make $13.2999999999999 Million
886,667 cars will get you over the hump at $13.3+ Million.
Whats worse, the math police or spelling police?

Apparently the BBC took math but not logic. 7,000 x 700 is in fact $4.9 million. But of course, this doesn't consider all those people who WOULD HAVE bought multiple tickets any how and INSTEAD purchased a season ticket. We have no clue what portion of the new season ticket holders did not attend any Galaxy games last year.
