I just saw one of the greatest pieces of football ever today. For all the brilliance of Cristiano in the highly marketed premier league, he has not yet done something so brilliant that only few have achieved so far, those few being Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldo, Best. Right now I am estatic and I am enjoying being alive to be able to see something truly beautiful. Thank you Messi. Thank you football.

Messi dazzled today and his goal was a sublime piece of skill reminiscent of Diego's goal in the '86 World Cup. But do you have to compare him to C. Ronaldo or anyone else when he has a great game? It's not really necessary to put down another player in order to appreciate one.

Hey I have never done that. I say it today because it's true. When have I put down a player in favour of Messi. And this isn't just a great game, this is something beyond it.

Dude, that goal was great but comparing Messi to Ronaldo this season is incorrect. Ronaldo has been been creating and scoring goals all season. He is a definite contender for Player of the Season and could well be up for World Player of the Year. Can we say the same of Messi?
I am not stupid, I recognize Messi's potenial but to compare him with CR this year is pre-mature.

1. A great goal it was, something Ronaldo is incapable of it was not (in fact he scored something similar vs. Fulham a few months back).
2. You cannot leave Ryan Giggs off that list, his goal vs. Arsenal in extra time of the 99 FA Cup semi-final replay if the best individual goal I have ever seen in top-level football.

And also Ronaldo has been consistently good this year, but he hasn't done many special things and he isn't capable(not yet) of scoring a goal like this. Ronaldos dribbling is more a product of speed than skill. Messi however is one of those 'special' players. But i'm sure ronaldo will be there some day.

but that's not the sentiment echoing in europe and south america, barring england. the sports press is going crazy.
Let me guess, the press in Spain say the Spanish league is the best, in Argentina the Argentinian league is the best, in Mexico the Mexican league is the best, in the USA fat blokes playing gridiron are the best, how bizarre.
How come someone with Real Madrid listed as their club is raving so much about Messi, I thought he played for Barcelona, surely you'd want him to fall flat on his arse.

actually the press raving was about Messi's goal, not the leagues. and second I am a madrista but i can still respect a player for his talent regardless of who he plays for. example. I support arsenal but still watch Man U games because C Ronaldo is a great Player. but Messi is something special.

Because true brilliance can be appretiated regardless of which club you support. I love Real Madrid, but Messi is an amazing entertainer, something very special.

And there you have two perfect examples of why Spanish football is so gay, Spanish teams shouldn't bother with actual matches just have 90 minutes of keepie ups, back heels and other assorted tricks, the crowd would vote for the 'winner' and, in the event of a tie, they could have a sudden death diving contest with points awarded for style and for content.

man you are ********ing stupid. to use a homophobic remark just because english players are ********ing shit is a blatant example of you being stupid. You;ll never win the argument, and everyone always laughs when english fans say things against skill, how do you argue against skill, all you have to say is 'you're only pissed because you're shit'. Football isn't about results, it's about the game. And the spanish league is the bets example of the game. The beautiful game doesn't really apply to english football(apart from the big guns). If you like results then maybe you should watch skilless american sports since they're catered to your stupidity. The greatest players in the world and the ones people and kids look up to rarely play in the premier league. You know what i shouldn't even bother arguing against someone so stupid that they actually are pro playing shit. Longballs are awesome.

There's no need to swear.
Football isn't about results,
Lucky for the Spanish.

1) Football IS about results. No coach has ever lost his job because his team was not entertaining. To say English football is crap because it's result oriented in its direct play is just stupid, especially in light of the fact that 3 of Europe's Champions League semifinalists are from England. If Ronaldo was playing in Spain you wouldn't be talking this foolishness.
2) Spanish football is not "gay". It's skillful and technical entertaining AND gets results. See, Barcelona versus Arsenal last year, Real Madrid nine times.
There are different ways of playing the game. Embrace them all. There are times when playing direct works. This "crap" long ball direct play was on full display by Manchester United against a supposedly more techinical Italian side was it not? However there are also times when individual skill such as what Messi has is necessary to break down a defense. It's not tricks for the sake of doing tricks, it's tricks and skills used to keep a defender off balance and the Spanish league has plenty of players who are able to do that and the English game has it as well in players like Ronaldo, Giggs (in his prime) Joe Cole and Robbie Keane.
As for me, Ronaldo has had more influence on his team's success in the past 12 months, both in the World Cup and with MUFC and THAT is what makes him a success, more so than Messi at this point. The world is full of people who can dribble. But to influence your side the way he has done this year, the way Ronaldinho did last year is what sets you apart as champion. MUFC haven't won anything yet this year but they are in a great position to do so and he will have been the driving force behind it if they do.

I agree with you on this. As important as Messi is to Barça, he is still a bit "inconsistent"; some games he has disappeared. I didn't watch all the ManU games, but I have the impression that CRonaldo is more regular on his impact.
This said, Messi is only 19. I'm looking forward to see him in a couple of years, once he has developped more muscle and experience...
