Real Madrid just can't keep their grubby galactico hands to themselves. Rafa turns them down (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/6565395.stm)
Probably my favorite part of the article for me.
"It was not a difficult decision. I have an objective here, I explained that when I spoke to the new owners and they told me they would be supportive.
"I do not like to talk about my family but they are really happy here at Liverpool and I am prepared to have my daughter with a Scouse accent, even though it is sometimes a problem for me!
"I want to make it clear that I said no to a good offer. That is because we are happy, it is not a question of money.
"This is a project, it is my club, my team, my players and the fans are always behind us. I am really happy here for all these things together."

Rafa is a good boss, but I wish he would keep a set lineup for just one game. But at the same time I'd be sad to see him go.

They just can't seem to get it through their thick skulls that Madrid are no longer the european powerhouse they once were.

This is the nicest possible way Rafa could tell Madrid to piss off. I do like his comment about his daughter having a scouse accent.

They might be learning though, this is the first time we heard about it after the fact. Normally, they have a press conference saying who they're after and then they wait for that person to call them.

Seems like my fellow Americans are indeed planning to purchase some marquee players in addition to the stadium.
Real, most likely, has even more money to dish out for players and Rafa, but why join a place from which you'll be fired in 6 months when you are still a reasonably young but a very successful manager. There's time for Real down the road...

If not anytime soon I think down the line, Rafa will eventually coach Madrid.
If I'm not mistaken, he was one of the youth coaches there and its been his boyhood club.

He knows Real is a mess and won't be good any time soon. Whomever gets this job will be fired sooner rather than later.

He may later on in his career, but I believe he wants to finish what he started at Liverpool and once he succeeds (or fails, hopefully not) he will probably move on to Real.

This makes sense to me. I respect that he wants to take care of the unfinished business of winning the league. He's already won the Spanish league twice. So having already been the best in Spain, what's the big deal about managing their biggest club? He's already won the Champions League too. He can't be happy about leaving England having failed to win the league. Although I'm not sure his next goal would be Real Madrid. Maybe international football?

If you were English I would have said "wishful thinking" :D
