Is this rule even necessary for Brazil? There really aren't that many foreigners who can make it in Brazil. :D

Why would foreign players want to move to a third world country?

An ignorant comment, once again...Ecuador has the same rule. Yes, little itty bitty Ecuador; and yes - it is necessary. Teams in Ecuador have had Joe Max Moore, Marco Etcheverry, Alexis Lalas, Rene Huiguita, Anthony de Avila, and yes, maybe they are not of the calibre of Man U's C Ronaldo, but they are well known players, nonetheless, if you truly are a fan of the sport...so as you can see, players from South America do move around a lot within South America, especially to teams that are playing the Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana. There is no EU agreement, so a foreigner could be a player from your neighboring country - Tevez to Brazil, for example!!!

Teso, I don't expect you to get it...but I am blown away by your comment.

The rules for the Bundesliga (http://www.bundesliga.de/en/dfl/fragen/index.php#):

"How many EU- and non-EU foreigners are allowed to play in the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga?

At the start of the 2006/2007 season the limitation for foreign players will be removed, as decided by the League Association and the DFB (German Football Association) during a general meeting on December 21, 2005. It will be replaced by UEFA s local player rule to benefit junior players, which will be introduced be UEFA at the start of the 2006/2007 season. The currently existing limitation on non-EU players will be removed.

According to the local player rule, at the start of the 2006/2007 season each club must have contracts with at least four professional players that came out of the youth system of a German club. That number rises to six in the 2007/2008 season and to eight in the following season. At least half of the local players must have been eligible to play for the respective club between the age of 15 and 21, the other half at least in Germany.

How many foreigners play in the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga?

Altogether there are 853 professional players in the 36 clubs of the Bundesliga and the 2. Bundesliga - 445 in the Bundesliga and 409 in the 2. Bundesliga.

45 percent of the professional players in the Bundesliga are foreigners. The 18 Bundesliga clubs employ 156 EU and 43 non-EU foreigners.

In the 2. Bundesliga, the percentage of foreign players is 37 percent. 122 foreign players are from UEFA countries, 29 are non-EU foreigners. (data as of February 3, 2006)"

Bad for the europeans. Every year we see less oportunities to the homemade players.
In 10 years countries like Brasil and Argentina will be more strong than today as NT and the europeans countries will be less strong than today.

I hope this rule comes in sooner rather than later. It would allow Europes smallest leagues like ours to progress. At the minute we have a serious amount of players playing in the UK and if this rule came in at least half of them would be forced to stay in Ireland.
