View Full Version : What do EPL teams NEED?

I wonder if we could group everything together and come up with a list of what each team in the EPL needs to address deficiencies from last year. I know I've seen a few things from individual teams such as Liverpool fans discussing their key needs. But I was wondering if we could come up with a list of what each team needs.
If you're a fan of a particular club, post what you think your 1 or 2 biggest needs in the offseason are.
For example, I think that ManU needs to improve at GK. Not that Barthez was bad this past season -- he was better than the year before. But he is on the downward slope of his career and I think ManU needs to improve in this area. It appears they may be addressing this with the signing of Tim Howard. The second thing they need is another pure striker. Someone who can either play along side RVN and/or who can produce when RVN sits.
Aston Villa is reported to be looking at signing Sorensen from Sunderland -- is GK a spot where AV really needs to improve?
Where are Portsmouth, Leicester and Wolves going to need to upgrade to be able to compete in the EPL?

As a more important and immediate 'need'...
Premiership teams NEED, for the sake of football as a whole (in this country) to remain in the least bit healthy, to stop being so damn greedy and give the lower leagues some of their undeserved billions. The myopia shown here by the powers that be, is disgusting.
That's what they need to do.
Not what you were looking for, but still true nonetheless - and I was in small rant mode.
They can all implode under the weight of their suffocating sense of self-importance as far as I'm concerned.

Spurs - A new manager. Hoddle is a twat. He couldn't tactically outwit a carrier bag and he has the man-management skills of a baboon.

EVERTON - 2 or 3 midfielders and a left back.
Also, we need to get rid of small part players with big salaries, Ferguson and Alexanderson for example.

Don't know if this counts, but what about more Prem clubs using American stars on part-time basis??? McBride was great for Everton, in fact, he scored in his 1st match...against Tottenham @ White Hart Lane.
Arsenal...younger GK was long overdue.
Liverpool...a true striking partner for Owens, NOT scoring occassionally by committee.

I'm not sure the EPL needs another lot of foreigners. If the yanks are good enough (and cheap enough!) they'll be signed.

the epl needs more south americans and less crap scandinavians who got no technical skills whatsoever.
maybe then the epl will be able to challenge la liga as the top league in the world but til then la liga has the most skilled players.

For the last time - you simply cannot shoehorn players that don't suit the style/temperature/whatever, into sides. It doesn't work like that.
Scandinavian players come here for a number of reasons - players from other parts of the world with different playing styles go elswhere by and large. As hot temperatures adversely affect players used to colder temperatures - the same can be said the other way round.
If the whole pf the Brazilian and Argentinian football playing talent was brought over here, there's absolutely no evidence to suggest that anything would be improved. We'd just have a load of freezing cold Brazilians playing on semi frozen pitches on New Years Day. I don't care how supposedly God like they are, if you're not used to it - you won't play well.
English teams buy the players they think will do them good - you do see that don't you? If they truly considered that shipping in numerous Brazilians would help - don't you think they'd do it?

Would any of them swap Rio for Wolverhampton?

WOLVES: A defender, a midfielder, and a striker all with experience in the Prem and who can add to our depth. A healthy Kenny Miller and Joleon Lescott in time for Blackburn would also help.

Absolutely not! Thornton is better than Howard. Perhaps the only reason Zach is not in France is because Beasley, Bocanegra, and Armas are there for the Fire already.

What they said. And also, a striker.
