View Full Version : Cautions Blackburn - Chelsea [R]
Frequent shirt tugs, shoulder holds, arm grabs, and the like by the classy Chelsea - no card.
Hard physical challenges by a scrappy Blackburn side - 4 cautions and counting into the second OT.
The only card to Chelsea so far is to Ballack for removing his shirt after scoring in OT. Ballack was guilty of at least one of the shirt tugs earlier.
Which do you view as more worthy of a caution -
the cynical professional foul by a beaten player?
or
the hard-fought, aggressive challenge?

It depends a lot on the foul. No one likes to see a big, take-the-ball-and-simultaneously-everything-else-in-the-area kind of tackles, but on the same note, nothing drives me more insane than someone getting beat and then having to stick a foot between the opposing player's legs to get him tripped up.

Really? Because whenever I've watched football live, thats the sort of tackle everyone loves and gets the crowd going.

Yep, those are the really big crowd pleasers here, when a players cleans house, taking the ball first of course. ;)
As for Blackburn, the stats speak for themselves. They're the roughest team in the Premiership, who adopt a very physical approach, and won't let you settle by snapping at your heels for 90 minutes, ultimately bullying their way to results against the teams that like to play football. They're also the team with the worst disciplinary record in the PL. Coincidence?

Haha, you're right. As a fan, I love big tackles. As a referee, not so much. That's what I meant.

I won't dispute your claims of Blackburn's roughness or disciplinary record; I am not qualified on those matters. Still, in this match it seemed like Blackburn was taking the game to Chelsea for large portions - especially 2nd half and OT - and in my opinion, they deserved the win.

Unfortunately, I fell asleep after about 25 minutes - the perils of and 8am start combined with then refereeing! :D

Chelsea dominated the 1st half in both chances and possession. The 2nd half was a different story.
