Bad. Bad. Movie. At one point you can see the nylon strings they use to make the space ships "fly". But. Oh. Such a guilty pleasure. ....and, yes, The Queen score rocks. :D

The auteurist in me always tries to justify this one (occasionally somewhat successfully), but really...no. But c'mon. Sean Connery in a one-piece leotard shooting new-age hippies with a pistol?

Well, some 80's flicks.

Big Trouble in Little China is a good pick ; a rather shameless entertainment. In France it was something like "The adventures of Jack Burton in the Mandarin claws !"

The final battle scene was very boring and unimaginative which reminds that it is after all your usual action film by many aspects. But I liked the rest.

A poor man's version of H.G. Wells' Island of Dr. Moreau from the Philippines. Released in 1959 and generally cited as the start of the "Blood Island" series of horror pictures by director Gerardo de Leon (which really began in the mid-60s). In black & white and very creepy. The creature is quite scary for an extremely low-budget film, where monsters usually look ridiculous. An excellent make-up was done for this film, and it also manages to have a touching ending. An interesting picture overall.

The drawback is amatuerish acting from most concerned except for veteran Francis Lederer, a very cultured and classical Continential actor. He was above this material but obviously took it seriously. Lederer starred years later in one of the best of the Rod Serling's Night Gallery episodes, entitled "The Devil Is Not Mocked, " where he played Count Dracula. A group of Nazi soldiers under the command of Helmut Dantine decide to take over his castle, much to their ultimate chagrin. Don't miss that one!

I agree. But is not held up as a great movie. I think you get the jist of the thread.

Commando is awesome - The SCORE for Commando, on the other hand, is the worst music written for film, ever. Period.

Anything with Keanu (except the matrix) is an automatic stupidity fest, and this is no exception. But Busey saves it.

I think Shooter fits the bill. I saw it last weekend and really enjoyed it, but can't find any good reasons why I should have enjoyed it. :)

I love Max, but Charles Middleton rules as Ming the Merciless:

(Frankly, I found the 1980 Flash Gordon to be insulting to the memory of the original serials.)
