What will freak my 16 year old daughter out more, Pan's Labrynth or the Wind that Shakes the Barley?
Killing doesn't bother her but intense violence (torture) does.

I want to jolt her into liking something other than "Dance With Me".
"Amazing Grace" is the safety valve. Either that or we go by the video store and try to nab the latest edition of "when a stranger calls".

Pan's Labyrinth was amazing, but it would mean she'll have to read in the subtitles (it is in Spanish).
The Wind that Shakes the Barley is a great film, but drags in part and can be hard to follow if you don't know that much about that period in Irish history and/or have trobule understanding accents. But seeing as this is a 16 yeard old girl we're talking about, she'd probably be happy just watching Cillian Murhpy for 2 hours.

Pan's Labyrinth has some pretty intense violence but no real torture.
Haven't seen the other. If she's 16 it should be okay, but a young kid I wouldn't take.

Thanks for the quick responses. It doesn't sound like any of these go overboard in terms of where we draw the line in our house. In the trailer to Wind it looked like there was at least one scene of torture and in Pan's labyrnth trailer there appeared to be a facist paired with a straight razor (never a healthy combination), so I needed to see if someone gives a firm "stay away from".
A scene like the fingernail scene in Syriana would be something that could ruin her whole day.

Yeah, I should have said Wind that Shakes the Barley has a scene like that. If anything, it is more graphic. My bad.

No problem. Worked out fine. Even though it may have been more graphic, I thought the syriana one was worse just because he was hoping around on that desk so much. I thought he was going to stub his toe.
Wind that Shakes was great. She enjoyed it and I thought it had the feel of the great "Breaker Morant".
And yeah, we needed subtitles more than we probalby would have in Pan's Labyrinth.
