Has anybody watched this show? It's pretty cool, a former British Special Ops solider gets dropped into a lot of remote locations wit a flint, knife and a water bottle and has five days to get out.
It's on the Discovery Channel.

This show is awesome. Bear Grylls is one of my new favorite people on earth. My only problem is with how excited he gets about peeing on an article of his own clothing and then wrapping it around his own head.
Whatever you have to do to survive, I guess..

I prefer Survivorman, the guy doesn't even bring a camera crew, he sets up his own tripods.

Man vs Wild >>>> Survivorman
Man vs Wild guy is superhuman, while all survivorman does is get dropped off, not die for a week, and then get picked up by a helicopter.
For example, towards the end of one episode of survivorman where he was somewhere in Canada, he made a slingshot out of some crap he had lying around so he could go hunting. All he succeeded in doing was walking around, getting muddy and wet, not seeing any animals to shoot, and then walking back to his camp hungry where he was picked up by his helicopter.
Meanwhile, Man vs. Wild guy gets dropped off, usually in the most difficult way possible (e.g. the one where they dropped him off of a helicopter in the Pacific Ocean, and had to swim like two miles just to get to an island), then does crazy things like bite the heads off of snakes before eating them whole, all in the process of getting the f$#* out of there.

Man vs Wild is much better than Suvivorman.
I love when he catches the fish and eats them raw immediately. :p

The live snakes he ate were actually pretty small... it was around Yosemite National Park. The bigger ones he cooks. The "difficult" part of the one where he swam two miles to the island was actually getting onto land without getting smashed onto the rocks by the surf.

This is only my opinion. I believe both should be praised, because they are two totally different things. Survivorman is by himself and without communication, he is not able to take the risks that Bear can. Les has it mentally tougher than Bear. He is alone, this is a tremendous challenge. Bear does some super human stuff. I am sure there are many things he can do that Les can't, but let us not forget to that each's own unique situation into mind.

I'm loving this show. I'm a bit of a survivol and nature nut myself. A couple of years ago, I got lost in the middle of a forrest at night, with nothing but a video camera, took me five hours to get out. That gave me a thrill I've pursued long after.

My buddy's parents go to church with Bear and say he's a pretty great guy.

I love both shows but lets remember the guy on Survivorman has to shoot all of his own camera shots, thats got be a huge pain in the ass while your trying rescue yourself. So any steady shot where he's coming down a canyon, he has go down set up the camera climb back up the canyon and then come down again and then check the camera and make sure he got the shot.
Also anyone know when new episodes are coming out for either show. All I ever see now are reruns.

I like both shows. They are both different set ups, and different methods. I don't think it is all the fair to compare them. Of course, I can't see survivorman making a raft and setting sail...man, those sharks were a bit scary.

I've seen both and each has its own virtues. That said, I'm a bigger Man vs. Wild fan. I am also hoping for some new episodes as I'm starting to memorize the repeats (though from a 'if I ever get lost' standpoint, this is likely a good thing).

Same for me. I saw the second half of the Island one last night, and it was the first time I had seen it.

The problem is that in this show he is trying to get out, which implies movement. If he places his own cameras, it means walking double the distance because you have to keep coming back to pick up the camera (or it means leaving cameras behind, like in the American Southwest episode).
Man vs Wild rules.

Les is currently filming new episodes as well, check out his blog about the Amazon and Kalahari. He's currently in Labrador. Bear Grylls has more "entertainment" value, but in terms of realistic survival techniques, you'll learn a lot more from Les.

I don't know about that. Thanks to Bear, whenever I get hot this summer I'm going to take my shirt off, pee on it and then wrap it around my head.
just started watching this show. it is fantastic. i'm amazed at his ingenuity.
