The Policeman!! I love him. He's one of my favorite players, besides Tiago of course.
Here's a fun video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2YOOLyU63A) of Cris when he was at Cruzeiro - right before he transferred to Lyon. The fight got him suspended for six months in Brazil, so Cruzeiro thought it best to give into Lyon's transfer demands rather than have a player who couldn't play for half a season. Luckily, Brazil didn't extend his punishment to overseas.
Unfortunately, Cris still has a bit of a reputation in Brazil, both for his temper and for scoring "own goals", and isn't looked too favorably by Brazilian media. :(
Edit: can someone explain to me why he doesn't get any Brazil call ups? Granted, they are stacked with talent, but to ignore The Policeman time after time?

I never knew he had such history.
Well that explains a lot about his national team luck.

Cris is certainly better than Juan. Naldo is better than Juan too. Juan must have naked photos of the gaffer to remain in the starting XI.
I, too, didn't know he was known for his violence in Brazil. Kind of like Matterazzi? Cris is one of my favorite players becauese of his reliability.

I am brazilian and the real problem with Cris here in that one of his "own goal" was scored in the major derby of South America: Brazil x Argentina.
Oh, and Argentina won that game BECAUSE of this goal (0x1).

not only is he better than juan, he's perhaps better than lucio! and at lyon he scores hella goals but NOT ONE the wrong way yet!
his rep as a fighter is hard to understand too, because for OL he's as physical as necessary but never more. he rarely tackles because he's rarely beat, and when he does you see why his second nickname is mr. clean... and coolheaded with that, never an elbow or a scuffle...

He did score one, against Lille. Good thing Lyon won that match 4-1!

Cris is out six months.
WTF.
We are getting hit badly by injuries. I wish we could bring Cacapa back... Surely we'll be in the market for a new CB?

Who takes over for Cris at this point?

Some names being touted are Heinze, Yepes, Thuram, and even worse, Silvestre and Boumsong.

The heirarchy for captaincy seems to be Cris > Muller > Govou/Toulalan

I would cross Heinze, Thuram and Boumsong off the list because I dont see why they would want to leave their current teams especially if only to hold Cris's place until he returns. Yepes or Silvestre would be much better solutions as replacements and more realistc.

Well, both Heinze and Thuram appear bench players with their teams' rosters as they are now.
I think Cris is a huge blow, he's definitely one of the best defenders in L1.

i don't know, there are lots of reasons to be able to dream of tutu at OL without being a raving maniac. He's just the kind of thinker to appreciate JMA and the professionalism of our organization. he would be coming back to france. he would be in touch with some NT teammates (although with abidal at barca and malouda gone this is less true, there are still some youngsters that would benefit from his presence). above all he would get a lot more pitch time.
it's less pipedreamy than heinze, and these are the only two on the list that i would be enthusiastic about. i'd prefer bodmer or muller over the other names.

We all know that there are players out there who'd rather stay on the bench at a big club rather than take a "step down." Also who says that ManU and Barca wont have injuries over a long season then those players will be needed.

Yeah, with the Rooney injury, MU already have injury issues.
I am starting to think that the best solution could be a person already on the roster.
That'd be Mathieu Bodmer.
After all, he has got to play, doesn't he?
