From the article:
"Beckham's guaranteed salary will be around $50 million over the five-year length of the contract and $48 million of that is being put up by Galaxy owner Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of the Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Leiweke's net worth was reported in Sports Illustrated earlier this year as $7.8 billion."

Damn, I never realized Leiweke was so rich.

When did Anschutz pass away and why has he willed his fortunes to Leiweke? ;)

I'm really becoming a fan of Chivas USA. They sign a player that was identified during the GALAXY open try-outs!!! I love it! How sweet would it be for this guy to come out and lead Chivas to victory over Galaxy?! :p

Anotonio Cue is really do all he can stick it to LA. Good for him. Keep that rivalry growing Mr. Cue. Keep it growing.

Funny, I thought that's why Anschutz was given sainthood by the soccer community. That can only happen after you die.:D

Ummm...Galaxy took a pass on Merlin (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494946), so it's not like CDCU stole him away from them or something. If anything, it makes Chivas seem a little more desperate for talent than the G's - which is saying something considering their roster these days.

And considering how they have played pretty strong their last two games, right. Did I ever say they "stole" him away? No. My point is I like that Cue is giving a player a chance that LA didn't and that it would be great if this kid ends up destroying LA when they play. I completely disagree that it makes them look desperate. If anything, a team that needs to bring in a superstar in hopes of making it back to the playoffs looks more desperate than a team that's confident in adding supplements to it's current roster.
